David Boise, folk singer,
to be at Coffee House
David Boise, contemporary
folk singer who has played many
top national spots, steps into the
spotlight of the Basement Coffee
House this week.
The Memorial Student Center
Basement will feature Boise in
8 p.m. to midnight performances
announced chairman Gary Reid.
A national Coffee House Cir
cuit act, Boise received “Variety”
acclaim while working with “Bo-
jangles” at Fountainbleau Hotel
in Miami Beach.
“Lead singer David Boise has
the voice and looks to become a
heartthrob,” the entertainment
trade paper said. “He handles
everything from serious songs to
commedy biti* with ease.”
Boise sang at the 1963 Monte
rey Folk Festival with the Rum
Runners in company of Bob Dy
lan and the Weavers. He then
worked in The Mitchell Trio with
John Denver and Mike Johnson.
Boise later joined “Bojangles,” a
rock act known for its work with
Liza Minelli at the Empire Room,
El San Juan Hilton, the televi
sion special “Movin’ ” and most
recently the Ed Sullivan Show.
The Basement performer’s itin
erary has also included Playboy
Clubs in Chicago, Miami, Atlanta,
Los Angeles, San Francisco and
Boston, over 200 college concerts
with the Mitchell Trio, The Cellar
Door in Washington and the Mike
Douglas Show.
Boise does James Taylors
“Country Road” and “Fire and
Rain,” “Feel to Be Free” and
“Common People” by Billy Tay
lor, Elton John’s “Your Song”
and Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bo
jangles”, among others.

When the awards were first
set up students wanted to honor
outstanding members of the fac
ulty of each college, Leon Drozd,
chairman of the Civilian Week-
Weekend Committee, said. To
make them more meaningful, the
awards were given on Texas In
dependence Day, which is also
Academic Excellence Day, he add
ed.
This year the CSC contacted
the dean of each college and ask
ed him to name a student from
that college to serve on the com
mittee to choose the men who
would be honored, Drozd said.
“You are to be especially con
gratulated for receiving this
award, particularly this year,”
Drozd said.
The student awards were given
to those who have shown out
standing leadership in their field,
not necessarily in an office, Mark
Olson, CSC president, said.
Monday first day
of preregistration
Students currently enrolled may
preregister for the fall semester
beginning Monday and continuing
through Friday, April 30, reports
Registrar Robert A. Lacey.
Preregistration hours are 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. each day next week.
Only currently enrolled students
are permitted to preregister,
Lacey noted.
Individual departments are re
sponsible for setting up the pre
registration schedule for their
students. The student begins the
preregistration process by taking
his identification card to the de
partment office to secure card
packets.
After the student’s assignment
card is approved, he next secures
a fee data card from the Housing
Office representative. All women
students report to the Housing
Office, on-campus members of the
Corps of Cadets go to Lounge D
in the Duncan area, all on-campus
civilian students report to the
Housing Office and all day stu
dents—civilian and Corps—obtain
their fee card at the Hart Hall
Lounge.
All students report to YMCA
Room 001 after securing the fee
data card to complete registra
tion.
