Aggies ink 38 football prospects on first day
By CLIFFORD BROYLES
The Texas Aggies, with their
coaches still spread out over the
state hoping to sign more, inked
38 prospective high school re
cruits to letters of intent Tues
day, the first day of signing in
the Southwest Conference. A&M

Although the coaches were still
in the field, they were definitely

A phone call received by elated

SMU, but when told that two
other Hobbs gridders had signed
with the Aggies, he said he would
consider it some more.

Yearlings bomb Fish
By MIKE STEPHENS
Battalion Staff Writer
Using their two big men effec
tively inside and fine shooting
from outside, the Texas Yearlings
soundly thumped the Texas Ag
gie Fish Tuesday in Austin, 96-
62.
With former all-staters 6-7
Lawrence Johnson and 6-6 Larry
Robinson blocking shot after shot
and rebounding at will, the Fish
never were in the game.
Texas began with a full court
press and never left it. A&M ob
viously was rattled and when
Johnson blocked two straight
shots early in the game, the tem
po was set.
A&M led 4-1 early, but never
led again. The Fish turned over
the ball several times in the first
half and never seemed confident
of their shooting the rest of the
game.
The Fish wound up with a 32.9
per cent average from the field
with Texas shooting 45.1 per cent
for the game. The Yearling’s Lar
ry Robinson led all scorers with

the field and 5-5 at the free throw
line. Mark Stewart led A&M with
15 points.
The ragged game was very
rough and tempers flared several
times. With 9:07 left in the game,
a fight finally erupted between
Robinson and a Fish. They land
ed on the floor under the Texas
basket while contesting for a re

ing.
Scoring for the Fish were
