17:1-8
Someone has said the eyes are the windows of the soul.
And when it's our own child — how easy to believe that in those
sparkling eyes we have seen and understood an infant soul.
Well, we have seen a mind eager to grow . . . character ready
to be molded.
If in our child's eyes we would see his soul, then one thought should
possess us: This is a soul known to God but not yet knowing God.
Soul-searching is always the threshold to spiritual growth. The
need we recognize in a baby's eager eyes is a need adult souls never
outgrow.
Remember as you plan your family's religious future: God knows
each and every human soul. The life He has given us is our opportunity
to know Him.

Tennessee rises
in cage rankings
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Tennessee State whipped Oral
Roberts 89-55 for one of its two
victories last week and moved
up from No. 10 to N.o 5 in The
Associated Press College Division
basketball poll. The Titans’ loss
was enough to drop them from
eighth to 15th.
The top four teams held onto
their berths, as did No. 6 Ashland,
but there was an all-out scramble
elsewhere in the poll released
Tuesday.
No. 1 Kentucky State, which
ran its record to 6-0 with a 106-
100 victory over Wiley, was fav
ored by sportswriters and sports-
casters with eight first-place
votes and 284 points.
Southwestern Louisiana, 10-0,
and LSU-New Orleans, 11-0,
which was idle, remained second
and third. Each received three
first-place votes.
No. 4 Stephen F. Austin, which
boosted its record to 9-2 with
three victories, drew one first
place vote.
Fairmont State jumped 10
places to No. 9 to tie Eau Claire,
10-0, which moved up five notches
from No. 14.
Here are the top 20 college
division basketball teams with
total points on a 20-18-16-14-12-

NY Giants coach to get first
Vincent T. Lombardi award
WASHINGTON <A>) — Alex
Webster of the New York Giants
Saturday will receive the first
Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial
Award as the National Football
League Coach of the Year at the
36th annual banquet of the
Touchdown Club.
Webster, named head coach in
September 1969, moved the Gi
ants to within a hair of captur
ing the NFC’s Eastern title after
inheriting a team that had not
had a winning seasin since 1963
and was only 1-12-1 in 1966.
Webster was one of the people
responsible for the great success
enjoyed by the Giants from 1956
to 1963 when they won six East
ern Division NFL crowns and
world championship in 1956.
New bowl game proposed
NEW YORK (A 5 ) — A Presi
dent’s Bowl football game will be
proposed to the Extra Events
Committee of the National Col
legiate Athletic Association when
it meets Saturday in Houston
prior to next week’s annual
NCAA convention, The Associ
ated Press learned Tuesday.
The plan will suggest that the
best team of the three major
service academies — Army, Na
vy and Air Force — act as host
team.
The first game would be sched
uled for Dec. 11, 1971, following
approval of the NCAA and the
Army, Navy and Air Force secre
taries.
