Page 6 College Station, Texas Tuesday, December 1, 1970 THE BATTALION Aggies open with SFA (Continued from page 1) Smith averaged 10.3 last year and was also the conference’s ninth leading rebounder with 8.6 per contest. Cooksey, the sharp shooting guard from Houston who aver aged 11.1 per content while hit ting on 46.7 per cent of his shots, is the fourth returning starter. Threadgill will be making his first starting appearance. The junior from New Braunfels came on strong at the end of last year. He’ll be taking the place vacated by the only starter gone from last year’s team, Mike Heitmann. Also expected to see consider able action will be 6-6 sophomore Jeff Overhouse; 6-7 junior Rick Duplantis, who is recovering from knee surgery; 6-3 sopho more Bob Gobin; 6-0 sophomore Bill O’Brien; and 6-4 sophomore Wayne Howard. The Aggie Fish do not open their season until Dec. 7, but Two Aggies run at NCAA meet Two Texas Aggies competed in the national cross country meet held at Williamsburg, Va. Nov. 23. Frank Ybarbo and Reuben Moncivaiz represented A&M in the meet, run over a six mile course, but they were not eligi ble in the team competition, since the necessary five members were not entered. Ybarbo finished 160th out of 332 with a time of 30:20. Monci vaiz fell at the three mile mark, and because the road was only about 15 feet wide, he was run over and could not finish. Villanova won the meet, but only after protesting the original results. Oregon finished with 86 points, and was thought to be the winner, but the protest was based on the grounds that the crowded finish and the number of runners who were in the college division or, like A&M, not in the team competition had caused the fin ish places to be confused, and Villanova really had fewer points, which would make the school from Pennsylvania victorious. This was found to be true up on investigation, and Villanova was the winner with 65 points. Oregon was second with 86, and the University of Texas at El Paso was third with 124. Cop-outs have bad breath! Their personal habits are funky. They let other people do their work. If they have families, they let other people take care of them. They rap things like financial security. People with purpose can’t hack this scene. That’s why Provident Mutual made a life insurance? program for college students. The earlier you start, the less it costs. And the closer you come to financial security. Stop by our office today. Or give us a call. In the meantime, if you’re looking for security, don’t get close to a cop-out. Tonight’s game will be the sev enth career meeting between the two teams with the Aggies hold ing a 4-2 edge in the series. The last time the two met was two years ago. The Aggies took up a big lead early but the Lum berjacks won on a shot in the final seconds by Marvin Polnick, nipping the Ags 75-74. Of the four Aggie seniors, three were sophomores on that team. They’ll be trying to erase the bitter memory for that one and get the new season off on the right foot. Powderpuff play slated Wednesday The Ramp Ten Girls of Law Hall will play a powderpuff foot ball rematch with a team fielded by University Women Wednes day at 5 p.m. on field 5. In a prior contest the Ramp Ten Girls prevailed 6-0. The game is Homecoming for the Ramp Ten Girls. TODD CHRISTOPHER (96) and Robert Murski (25) of the Ag-gies put the halt to Texas running back Jim Bertel- son (35).
