That was right after last year’s NCAA punting leader had stroked a punt for the grand total of 10 yards. “I just thought I’d die if I didn’t do something to make up for that punt,” said Marsh who had dashed 54 yards for a touch down with an intercepted pass on the last play of the first half. The poor punt put A&M into position deep in Baylor territory with slightly more than a minute on the clock and the Bears lead ing 29-24. “I knew he (Lex James) was going to throw deep and I was just waiting . . . . ” Marsh said. “I had to shake that punt off . . . and then here came A&M wide receiver Hugh McElroy on a cross pattern. I stayed with him and caught the ball just before it went out of bounds.” Marsh was almost beaten to death by his joyous Baylor team mates on the sidelines as the Bears ran out the clock. train fullback, was selected as the offensive player of the week for his 170 yards rushing against Rice in the Longhorns’ 45-21 vic tory. I was so happy I don’t remember.” Marsh, a senior from Vernon, said the victory over A&M “was the sweetest I’ve ever been as sociated with. I think we as a team feel like we are a heckuva lot closer as a unit.” Other defensive players receiv ing votes include Texas lineback er Scott Henderson, and Texas Tech defensive end Bruce Dowdy. On offense, the other vote get ters were Texas Tech quarterback Charles Napper and Baylor re ceiver Derek Davis. Worster said “It takes an all- out effort for me to do something well.
