Even recent public opinion polls show that many of the American people think the Original Bill of Rights has a subversive ring. Yet foreign visitors to America still observe that Americans enjoy freedoms that are unparalled elsewhere. It is ironic but under standable that the freeest people could be indifferent to the legal and historical basis of their freedom. Yet with in all men, regardless of their particular lot in life, there is a flame of self-respect and a belief in on’e own essen tial worth. There comes a time when a man wishes to speak the truth as he understands it and be free from tyrannical reprisals. There comes a time when a man wishes to carry out freely those activities which are essential to a full life for himself, his family, and his community. Perhaps on this 50th anniversary of the American Civil Liberties Union we can take time to reaffirm our belief in the Bill of Rights and the United States Consit- tution. The Brazos Civil Liberties Union extends our invitation to everyone to strengthen their belief in these doctrines. The Brazos Civil Liberties Union offers their assist ance wherever Civil Liberties are being threatened. We have done much in the past but till much more is needed. Our membership ranges over a wide political spectrum of citizens but we are united in our concern for the ideas expressed in the Bill of Rights.
