The Aggies, Longhorns, Rice Owls and Baylor Bears match strides on the three-mile race which starts at G. Rollie White Coliseum. Coach Ted Nelson has an nounced one lineup change for the meet, with Pat Bradley, a freshman from Houston Memorial, replacing Joe Waltz. Other Aggie runners and their finish in the Tech meet will be: 1. Frank Ybarbo, 14:46; 3. Ruben Moncivaiz, 15:17; 6. Sammy Skin ner, 15:59; 8. Dennis O’Brien, 16:17; 9. Jim Haynie, 16:18; and 10. Carl Curtis, 16:19. The top five finishers among the seven entrants for each team will place for points in the meet, Nelson said. “Texas and Rice have good teams,” he said. “They don’t have any real out standing boys, but they’re just real well balanced.” | Texas, for an example of bal ance, defeated Tech in a meet earlier this year. The Raiders’ John Baldwin, who was second to Ybarbo, won it but the Long horns took the next seven places in the meet. John Gardner, Tinker Murray, Billy Gamble and Jack Colvin of the Longhorns were pointed out as top runners by Nelson, as was Rice’s Paul Stansberry, who fin ished fifth in the Southwest Con ference mile last year. Nelson said he didn’t know anything about the Baylor run ners, but said that if Pete Morales was able to run they would have a great one. Morales, a top distance man last year, hurt his achilles tendon in the SWC track meet last year and Nelson didn’t know if Mo rales would be able to run after the injury. judged best *e last week- Agricultural Nuclear En- illllS ruits 5 one of dozens ithin the PenU' ways to maki more attractive, k, Secretary oi t. The Fish lost to TCU last week 31-7 in Fort Worth, while Baylor lost to the Texas Shorthorns 47- 20 in Austin. “Baylor will not be as big as TCU,” Fish Coach Jim Keller said, “but they are a lot quicker. Their quarterback, Kenny Cooper, is a fine football player.” The Cubs should have a strong running game, with Marcus Rogers of Waco Richfield and Bob Langham of Deer Park the top two running backs. They also have some linemen who have good chances of making the varsity next year. Richard Mason (6-1, 225), Mike Black (6-4, 225), Jack Treadaway (6-3, 205), Bob Har rell (6-0, 220), and Dennis De- Loach (6-0, 195) are the big names for the Cubs. There have been several changes in the Fish lineup this week. Of fensive guard Mike Cady is out with a cracked collarbone. Doubt ful starters and their injuries are tailback Pat Herring (shoulder), wingback Grady Harris (sprained ankle), and safety Mark Green (hip pointer). Still out with in juries are offensive tackle Dan Sibley and defensive guards Tom my Roderick and Robert Dennis, all potential starters who were out of action last week because of injuries. New starters this week will be Jimmy Pattillo at left tackle and Tommy Stratton at right guard offensively, and Van Daniel at right linebacker on defense. Should Herring and Harris not be able to start, they will be re placed by Garry Smith and Bobby Merren. Terry Savage will take Green’s place if he is unable to play. In addition to these changes, the remainder of last week’s start ing lineup will start again. Eric Elkins and Mike Bruton are the ends, Pattillo and Kevin Smith are the tackles, Stratton and Richard Semands are the guards; and Darrell Taliaferro is the center. Tim Trimmier will be the start er at quarterback again this week. He will be joined by David Stan- dish or Dwight LaBauve at full back, and Herring or Smith at tailback, and Harris or Merren at wingback, depending on the phys ical condition of Herring and Harris. Defensively, Keller will play Kevin Owen and Marshall Jack- son at the ends and Billy Wil liams and Mike Stautzenberger at the guards. Linebackers will be Steve Wood, Billy Wiebold, and Daniel. The cornerbacks will he Charles Billingsley and Chris Hentzen, with Bill Nutt and Green or Savage at the safeties. Top performers for the Fish last week were Smith, with 77 yards in 19 acrries, Nutt, the punter, with 6 kicks for an aver age of 47.8 yards, tlie longest being 54 yards, and Wiebold, who made 15 tackles and returned an intercepted pass 17 yards.
