R. Luedecke. Campus master planning calls for a four-stage build-up, result ing in approximately 25 buildings. The campus will eventually be divided into two areas, an aca demic core for classrooms, labo ratories and administrative of fices and a recreation core con taining dormitories and related facilities. Foundation work is complete for the campus’ first two build ings, a classroom-administration building and technical laboratory for the Texas Maritime Academy. Both structures are scheduled for occupancy next fall. The facilities are being con structed under contracts totaling $1,054.11. Epco Construction, Inc., of Houston was awarded an $844,320 contract for the two buildings and Don Trapey Con struction Co. of Texas City re ceived a $209,791 award for pav ing and utilities. TMA cadets are already living on the Mitchell Campus—aboard the academy’s training ship, the Texas Clipper. The 15,000-ton ship is berthed at the campus docks, which were completed this summer. The docks, which also will serve the university's two oceano graphic research vessels, were constructed with $500,000 state appropriation obtained through the help of State Sen. A. R. Schwartz and Rep. Ed Harris of Galveston and Rep. Dean Neugent of Texas City. Land for the campus was do nated by Houston businessman George Mitchell. The campus is named in honor of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mitchell of Galveston. The Moody Foundation of Gal veston provided a $1 million grant for construction of the first facil ities. The Moody Marine Institute honors the late William Lewis Moody Jr., also of Galveston. Aside from the maritime acad emy, majority of the activities planned for the Mitchell Campus centers around the university’s Oceanography Department and Sea Grant Program. Christmas Christmas r.s. (AP Wirephoto) Jordan fighting stopped; Arabs still oppose Israel By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Arab truce teams persuaded Palestinian guerrillas and Jor danian army troops to stop shoot ing at each other in guerrilla strongholds of northern Jordan Thursday, a spokesman for the A1 Fatah guerrilla group said. The Beirut spokesman said agreement to accept the Cario- arranged cease-fire was reached in Ramtha, a border town on the Damascus-Amman highway, the guerrillas’ principal supply route from Syria. Ramtha and nearby Irbid, Jor dan’s second largest city, were quiet, the guerrilla spokesman said, after reports of shelling by Jordanian troops earlier in the day. In Amman, Jordan’s new gov ernment said it would recognize only the A1 Fatah guerrilla group, the major Palestinian organiza tion headed by Yasir Arafat. Other guerrilla organizations operating in Jordan will be con sidered illegal, Information Min ister Maj. Adnan Abu Odeh said. He condemned Marxist guer rilla bands, such as the Peking- oriented Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine that or ganized the hijacking and de struction of four international jetliners last month and at one point held more than 400 passen gers and crew hostage. “I tell you the struggle in Jordan has been between the government and the Marxists,” he said, outlining the new govern ment’s policy. It replaced the military government that ruled during Jordan’s nine-day civil war that left, according to some re ports, 20,000 dead. The death of Egyptian Presi dent Gamal Abdel Nasser, who had accepted the U.S.-sponsored Middle East peace plan, brought renewed pleas from international capitals for Arab-Islraeli peace talks. Presidents Nixon and Tito, meeting in Belgrade, issued a general communique calling for negotiation rather than confron tation to meet world problems. Soviet Premier Alexei N. Ko sygin, in a Radio Cario broad cast, suggested Egypt’s new lead ers should follow Nasser’s move toward peace. He said the Soviet Union would “continue to extend support to Egypt and the Arab countries” but his country “stands for consolidating peace in the Middle East.” Delegations from 10 Arab coun tries, meeting in Cairo after Nasser’s funeral, said they would “follow Nasser’s policy to fight international colonialism and Zi onism.” AN IMPORTANT SEMINAR ON MIND CONTROL AND “ALPHA DYNAMICS” FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING MENTAL POWER... On April 2nd, NBC Television car ried a Science News Special—"The Unexplained," narrated by Rod Ser- ling — in which one of the most fantastic breakthroughs in modern psychology was discussed. This new science deals with the conscious con trol of brain waves — the electro chemical activity of the brain. This new science is called Alphagenics, and concerns itself with the Alpha Rhythms of the brain. Dr. Joseph Kamiya, researcher at the University of California, demonstrated on na tional TV how students can learn to control their brain waves and dis cussed some of the phenomenal capabilities of man with self-control of his brain waves. There are four principal brainwave rhythms: the Beta-wave, associated with the outer conscious levels, ten sion, anxiety, physical activity, etc; the Alpha-wave, associated with inner-levels of mental activity, tran quility, inspiration, creativity, E.S.P., healing processes, memory, learning, day-dreaming, and other phenom ena; Theta-waves, which is related to deeper inner meditation, mental control of pain, and finally the Delta-waves, which are found in deep sleep or total unconsciousness. Exploration of this almost unknown continent — the human brain — has been pioneered by a soft-spoken lis sincere, scientist has been training people to control their brain waves for many years. Twenty-five years ago Silva and his associates began their research in Mind Control, to see if it was pos sible to increase a persons I.Q. factor. Amazingly, Silva discovered that not only could I.Q. be in creased but a person trained in this technique could even control certain areas of the Autonomic Systems, heart beat, respiration, body temp erature, etc. The implications of this breakthrough with regards to health and disease was staggering. With Mind Control, it was found that a person could banish pain, accelerate healing, eliminate insomnia, migraine headaches, as well as untold psycho somatic problems. As research continued, an amazing discovery was made. Volunteer stu dents were found to be surprisingly sensitive to 4be feelings and emo tional attitudes of others. In other words they became more intuitive. In-depth studies revealed that any one with a normal brain and suffi cient training could develop so- called E.S.P. and clairvoyance. Alpha Brain Wave Control actually en ables anyone to become a superior human being. ALPHA BRAIN WAVE CONTROL —Three years ago, the directors of the Institute of Psychorientology, decided they were ready to release their findings to the general public, and offer the M. C. Training Pro gram to everyone interested in de veloping a better mind. 10,000 GRADUATES -COAST TO COAST — Now there is no longer any doubt as to the great value of this astounding method of self im provement. G. (Buddy) Mc Dowell of the Texas Firemen’s Training School staff at A&M will represent the university at the annual Tarrant County Fire Fighters Association Banquet Saturday. Tarrant County's 33 paid and volunteer fire departments host the event to honor county offi cials who support the county-wide fire program. McDowell is former chief of the Richland Hills Fire Department. He joined the university staff early this year. The banquet also marks the 20th anniversary of the 1,000-man county association. Many special guests are expected for the 7:30 p.m. Round-Up Inn program, Mc Dowell said. A&M’s two oceanographic re search vessels will converge on the Flower Gardens in the Gulf of Mexico next wfeek for the first coordinated studies of the unique coral reef area. Dr. Richard Rezak, associate professor of oceangraphy, said A&M researchers will conduct joint investigations of physical, biological and engineering as pects of marine acoustics. The two ships, the 180-foot R/V Alaminos, and the 100-foot R/V Orca, will be on station at the Flower Gardens Sunday through Tuesday. The Flower Gardens, northern most known living coral reefs in the Gulf, are located about 126 miles southeast of Galveston. Studies of the area are being supported by the Office of Naval Research, the National Science Foundation and A&M’s Sea Grant Program. Dr. Rezak, chief scientist aboard the Alaminos, said oper ations with the larger ship will primarily involve a bottom sampl ing and coring program. He noted a major goal of the cruise will be to gather informa tion concerning the distribution of sediment types around the reef. Such knowledge, he added, will be valuable in petroleum ex ploration in areas where similar reefs have grown during the geo logic past. The Orca will be the primary acoustical laboratory. “Knowledge of acoustics in the Gulf of Mexico is extremely lim ited,” Dr. Rezak said. “Such in formation is valuable in operation of military and commercial fish eries sonars.” Dr. Jerald W. Caruthers, assist ant professor of oceanography, will conduct acoustic transmis sion and reverberation experi ments, while Dr. Stephen Riter, assistant professor of electrical engineering, will carry out ex periments in marine acoustical communications. Dr. Thomas J. Bright, assistant professor of oceanography, will gather information concerning animal sounds associated with the reef community. perma-crease Westbury Slacks 3itm Stnrncs ‘ umberaitp men’s! toear 329 University Drive 718/846-2706 College Station, Texas 77840 • 1.00 THE FAERIE QUEENE KCSTTJ© TliffSvIotes.
