Saving of the A&M economics faculty has been awarded a Ford Foundation fac ulty research fellowship. The award, which pays Dr. Saving’s academic salary for a year, is one of 20 annually given nationwide to faculty personnel in the social sciences by the Ford Foundation. It will enable the economics professor to devote the 1970-71 school year to research on trans action costs and monetary theory While Saving is on leave from the classroom, Dr. Michael De- Prano, visiting professor from the University of Southern California, will assume the Ford Foundation research fellow’s teaching duties, according to Dr. John W. Allen. “Competition is quite keen for the Ford Foundation faculty re search fellowships,” stated Allen, head of the Economics Depart ment which recently received a $458,000 National Science Foun dation departmental science de velopment grant. “It is a distinct honor for Dr. Saving, the department and A&M,” Allen said. A former Michigan State Uni versity economics professor, Dr. Saving came to A&M in 1968. The 1957 Michigan State gradu ate who earned the master’s and doctorate at the University of Chicago specializes in mathemat ical economics, macroeconomic and monetary theory. Saving also taught at the Uni versity of Washington and has been a professional consultant to the attorney general of California, Consumers Power Company and the Federal Trade Commission, among others. His publications include numer ous journal articles and two books published by Macmillan. Dr. Flowers selected committee chairman Dr. A. I. Flowers has been selected by the Brazos Valley Development Council’s Executive Committee to be chairman of the BVDC Health Planning Commit tee.
