better drivers

ers which take the walkie-talkie signals and broadcast them through the car radio. The

Luedecke speaks at commanders conference

Luedecke reminded the univer
sity’s Corps of Cadets leaders
Monday.
The former Air Force major
general said ROTC stands for
national and personal strength.
General Luedecke was keynote
speaker for the Corps’ annual
commanders conference. Approxi
mately 250 junior and senior
Corps leaders are participating
in the one-week conference
preparation for the start of
classes next Monday.
Luedecke suggested the cadet
leaders strive to make Texas
A&M’s ROTC program — already
one of the most heralded in the
nation — even better during the
coming school year.
He said cadets must emphasize
leadership.
“Conduct yourself with re
spect,” General Luedecke in
structed the cadets.
New Student Week for all new
students begins Wednesday. A
general assembly at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday will include talks by
top university officials.
Texas A&M is playing a key
role in producing better teenage
drivers on Texas’ streets and
highways.
The university, through a
$148,000 contract between the
Industrial Education Department
and the Texas Education Agency,
graduates 50 certified supervisors
and 65 teaching assistants Friday
from the Driver Education Insti
tute.
Organization of the Cadet
Corps will be completed Saturday
morning.
At the same time, 64 A&M
Consolidated High School students
complete the best drivers educa
tion course available.
Delayed registration for stu
dents who did not register in
the spring or summer will con
tinue through Friday. Classes
begin at 8 a.m. Monday.
Called a multi-phase drivers
education program, the supervis
ors and teachers receive training
in multi-media teaching systems,
driving simulators, behind-the-
wheel instruction and use of a
driving range. ,
