THE BATTALION Friday, May 8, 1970 College Station, Texas Page 5 Ags Split But Horns Win SWC By Clifford Broyles Battalion Sports Writer AUSTIN — The Texas Aggies solved James Street Thursday but they could not figure out Texas’ All-American Burt Hooten as they split a Southwest Confer ence doubleheader with the Long horns that gave Texas the 1970 title. The Aggies knocked out Street in the sixth inning of the opener for a 7-5 win but Hooten tossed the Horns to an 8-0 win in the second game. Today’s single game scheduled OH HAPPY DAY—FOR AWHILE—Center fielder Dave Elmendorf is met after the first game by teammates David Van Houten (left), Larry Smith (number 18), and Chris San in the back. The Aggies dropped the second game 8-0 to Burt Hooten on a nifty four hitter. The opener matched the Ag gies’ Doug Rau against Street, two pitchers who sported the most gaudy records in the conference. Both had problems as their con trol faltered for one of the few times this year. Rau, who won his ninth game of the year against a single loss, walked five men in the five in nings that he worked. Before the game, he had issued only 15 walks in 68 innings. Street walked four in five and one-third innings after only 15 walks in 52 innings. Butch Ghutzman was the Ag gies’ offensive star in the opener as he batted four times and reached base on two singles, a walk and a fielder’s choice. He scored each time. His leadoff single helped get A&M on the scoreboard first. R. J. Englert sacrificed him to second and Billy Hodge’s single drove in the run. Texas took the lead in the sec ond inning as Tommy Harmon singled to right and Rau walked David Hall and Jack Miller to load the bases with none out. John Langerhans and Pat Amos knocked in runs with successive singles as Texas moved in front, 2-1. A&M came back in the top of the third as Rau and Ghutzman walked and Englert sacrificed for the second time. Dave Elmen dorf’s double to left scored both runners as A&M regained the lead, 3-2. Another leadoff walk to Rau led to A&M’s fourth run. Ghutz man singled, moving him to sec- 1970 TOYOTA $1830.00 BRAZOS VALLEY TOYOTA INC. Rau got into another jam in the bottom of the inning by walk ing Lou Bagwell and David Chalk before Harmon hit a line drive home run to right to give Texas the lead, 5-4. Singles by Danny Ragland and Jim Sampson ignited the winning spurt in the sixth for A&M. Lar ry Hardy relieved Street after Sampson’s hit with one out. Ronnie LaGrone, pinch-running for Sampson, beat Amos’ throw to second when he hestitated whether to throw to second or first. Ragland, who was on sec ond, kept running and scored on the play. Elmendorf’s single scored La Grone, who would have been out had he not knocked the ball loose from Harmon in a collision at home. Hardy then issued consecu tive walks to Hodge and Hada way to force in another run. Charles Kelly relieved Rau in the sixth and shut out the Long horns the last two innings to gain his fourth save of the year. But the second game was too much Texas muscle and Burt Hooten as the Longhorns won, 8-0, banging out 11 hits off four Aggie pitchers. Texas scored twice in the first as Bagwell doubled in Mike Markl, who had singled. Har mon’s single knocked in the sec ond run. Langerhans’ eighth home run of the year gave the Longhorns two more runs in the fourth and then they wrapped it up with four runs in the fifth. Harmon’s triple with the bases loaded was the big blow in that inning and Miller’s single scored Harmon with the final run. Harmon, a junior catcher from Fort Worth, slammed five hits to pace the Longhorns. He knocked in seven runs with a homer and a triple being the big blows. Hooten allowed only two hits and one walk until Englert doubled and Elmendorf singled in the ninth. He struck out eight and 15 of the other 19 outs were ground balls hit to the infield. Pat Jamison reliever loser Dave Benesh in the fifth and Paul Czerwinski and Rocky Self stop ped Texas for the final three innings. This new science deals with the conscious con trol of brain waves — the electro chemical activity of the brain. This new science is called Alphagenics, and concerns itself with the Alpha Rhythms of the brain. Dr. Joseph Kamiya, researcher at the University of California, demonstrated on na tional TV how students can learn to control their brain waves and dis cussed some of the phenomenal capabilities of man with self-control of his brain waves. There are four principal brainwave rhythms: the Beta-wave, associated with the outer conscious levels, ten sion, anxiety, physical activity, etc; the Alpha-wave, associated with inner-levels of mental activity, tran quility, inspiration, creativity, E.SjP., healing processes, memory, learning, day-dreaming, and other phenom ena; Theta-waves, which is related to deeper inner meditation, mental control of pain, and finally the Delta-waves, which are found in deep sleep or total unconsciousness. Exploration of this almost unknown continent — the human brain — has been pioneered by a soft-spoken parapsychologist, Jose Silva, of the Institute of Psychorientology, of La redo, Texas. This sincere, dedicated scientist has been training people to control their brain waves for many years. “ALPHA DYNAMICS” FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING MENTAL POWER... I Twenty-five years ago Silva and his associates began their research in Mind Control, to see if it was pos sible to increase a persons I.Q. factor. Amazingly, Silva discovered that not only could I.Q. be in creased but a person trained in this technique could even control certain areas of the Autonomic Systems, heart beat, respiration, body temp erature, etc. The implications of this breakthrough with regards to health and disease was staggering. With Mind Control, it was found that a erson could banish pain, accelerate ealing, eliminate insomnia, migraine headaches, as well as untold psycho somatic problems. As research continued, an amazing discovery was made. Volunteer stu dents were found to be surprisingly sensitive to 4he feelings and emo tional attitudes of others. In other words they became more intuitive. In-depth studies revealed that any one with a normal brain and suffi cient training could develop so- called E.S.P. and clairvoyance. Alpha Brain Wave Control actually en ables anyone to become a superior human being. ALPHA BRAIN WAVE CONTROL —Three years ago, the directors of the Institute of Psychorientology, decided they were, ready to release their findings to the general public, and offer the M. C. Training Pro gram to everyone interested in de veloping a better mind. 10,000 GRADUATES -COAST TO COAST — Now there is no longer any doubt as to the great value of this astounding method of self im provement. Techniques had been improved and refined to the point that only a few hours of classroom instruction were all that was required to train a truly effective person.
