The championship series is slated to begin with a double- header Thursday at Clark Field in Austin. The Aggies own a 12-2 mark good for the runnerup spot to the 12-0 Longhorns. A three game sweep or two game sweep and a rain out would record with an 8-0 record and has the second best e.r.a. with a mag- nificient 0.85, while Hooton, who went undefeated in 12 decisions last year, has a 7-1 standard with 1.59 e.r.a. Street has a career record with Texas of 29-6 while Hooton is 19-1. The Longhorns are deeper than just two aces, however, with senior Larry Hardy and sopho more Mike Beard each register ing six wins this season. A&M counters with a staff that has been an important factor in HARDY FRAZIER give the Aggies the title but any thing less would send the Horns to Omaha in June for the College World Series. The people in Austin have de cided that the series warrants special coverage so KHFI Channel 42 in Austin will telecast the series beginning at 1 p.m. Thurs day and the single game Friday will start at 2 p.m. This will be Channel 2 on the cable in College Station and Bryan. Rau, a junior, has a 17-7 career mark for the Aggies but this has been Rau’s year as he has thrown five shutouts and has given up only 2 earned runs in 68 innings while striking out 79 batters. Rau and Benesh have started every doubleheader for the Aggies for the last two seasons and have been prosperous combining for a 19-7 record against SWC compe tition and 31-11 against all oppo- PAT JAMISON the series and a fourth pitcher is a sure bet for the 1970 team and also a candidate for the All- American team. The Longhorns boast sopho more Burt Hooton, a first team All-American last year, and senior James Street who has been named to the All-America second team the last two years. A&M counters with senior Dave Benesh, an All-SWC performer last season, and Doug Rau, a left hander who has an 8-1 record and the fburth best e.r.a. in the nation, 0.26. Street is unbeaten for the Long horns who have a 31-5 season PAUL CZERWINSKI sition. Benesh the only senior on the Aggie mound staff has a 6-3 record with a 1.55 e.r.a. and his e.r.a. is 1.29 against the confer ence hitters. Bruce Katt and Hardy Frazier have been the number three starters for Coach Tom Chandler and has been outstanding when called upon. Last Saturday Frazier, in his first SWC start, defeated TCU 3-2 as he went the distance in the ten inning game.
