Richard Diamond
Editor:
I was appalled by the article
that appeared in yesterday’s “Lis
ten Up” column in The Battalion.
Such superficial thought as pur
ported by the six individuals ob
viously reflects an inept attitude
toward coeducation on this cam
pus. Remarks such as “Highway
6 runs both ways” act only as a
means to enshroud rational
thought. The real solution to the
problem begins by examining the
causes of the grievances given
by the female students instead of
dismissing the main issue by
such trite statements.
One must realize that the prob
lem lies in the vocal minority of
uncultured and inconsiderate in
dividuals who have not been able
to conform to our society’s stan
dards of normality and respect
for the opposite sex. It is due to
this vocal minority that catcalls
and other slanderous remarks are
echoed throughout the walls of
this institution. A university is
a place where students are expect
ed to develop their mental and
social capabilities. Evidently
these six men have found Texas
A&M a place where they may
regress to their troglodytic ten
dencies. Their antiquated ideas
on how to gain attention from
the female veraciously reveal
their insipidness.
It is out of pure interest that
I question the causes of para
noia these students exhibit. Thery
seem to fear that the coed will
distract and subvert the male
students from their normal proc
ess of learning.

The election will be held April
13 at Area two of Hensel Park.
A steak fry will follow the elec
tion. Tickets are 50 cents for
members and $1.50 for non-mem
bers and may be purchased in
room 102 of the YMCA after the
Easter break.
The new officers will be in
stalled following the election.
The old cabinet will meet with
the new cabinet to assist in mak
ing out the new calendar for the
cabinet and to discuss the duties
of the cabinet members. The in
stallation of the new officers will
be during the first week of May.
All applications must be re
turned by March 25. Applicants
should sign up for an interview
with the nominating committee
when they return the application,
Denny said.

Sandy Broder
Editor,
My comments are primarily for
that undoubtedly attractive young
bicyclist (name withheld) who
wrote so bitterly of the male re
action to her on this campus. Just
from the reaction to this weary,
middle-aged bicyclist, I can imag
ine the static she must get. Also,
in my youth I “integrated” an
all-male school (Harvard), on
roller skates, and my only come
back to their comments was to
leave my skates just far enough
out in the aisle to surprise late
comers. But I would like to say
to this young miss, from the view
point of almost half a century of
living, “nothing ventured, noth
ing gained.” P.S. I went on to
help “integrate” the United
States Army—strictly on foot.
