inburg.
The afternoon doubleheader
will start at 1 p.m. with a seven
inning game to be followed by a
nine-inning contest.
Chandler has nominated junior
southpaw Doug Rau of Colum
bus to pitch the opener and sen
ior righthander Dave Benesh of
Houston St. Thomas to work the
nightcap.

players have signed letters of in
tent with Texas A&M to bring
the Aggies’ total signees to 38.
The latest to add their names
to the Aggie ranks were Neder
land tackle Marshall Jackson, 6-
foot-3, 200 pounds; Nederland
halfback Bob Merren, 6-1, 190;
halfback Grady Harris, 6-0, 175
of Arlington; guard Richard Se-
mands, 6-0, 207, of Houston Ster
ling; and Arlington fullback Da
vid Standish, 5-11, 188.
Another freshman signee, Eric
Elkins, a quarterback-safety from
Dallas Jesuit, set a schoolboy in
door record in track in the Astro
dome meet this past weekend.
He set an indoor high hurdles rec
ord with a 14.1 clocking and last
year ran a 13.9 for the fifth best
time in the nation outdoors.
Three runners on A&M’s mile
relay team, who hold the new
indoor world’s record are fresh
men and a freshman, Steve Ve-
riato, is leading the Aggie golf
qualifying.

The seniors are Benesh, a two-
year letterman; Raley, a two-
year letterman from Houston St.

year letterman from Waco Rich
field.
The juniors are Elmendorf, a

NEW YORK (^P)—Cazzie Rus
sell has so much enthusiasm it
seems to have spilled over onto
both ends of the basketball court.
“He has the enthusiasm of Joe
Frawiec,” said John Condon, the
Madison Square Garden boxing
publicity man, likening Russell
to the heavyweight champion.
“He comes off the bench all
charged up . . . full of electrici
ty.”
Unfortunately, most of Rus
sell’s enthusiasm during his first
few years with the New York
Knicks of the National Bas
ketball Association was bottled
up on the offensive end of the
court.
But jazzie Cazzie, a Garden
favorite ever since his All-Amer
ican days at Michigan, seems fi
nally to have divided all that en
ergy between offense and defense
and is really earning that
$205,000 he got to sign with the
Knicks those first three seasons.
