Rice led 44-27 at the half, then hung on in the face of an Arkan sas pressing defense to increase their lead to two games in the race. The win leaves the club with an 8-2 conference record and put the Porkers alone in the cellar as a result of SMU's win over Baylor. Tom Myer, a junior from Camden, Ind., led Rice, smoking in 36 points. The sharpshooting guard hit 15 of 22 from the field and was perfect at the charity line, going six for six. Arkansas seems to bring out the best in Myer. He also had 36 against the Razorbacks at Fayetteville a year ago and both are career Rice shot 50 per cent from the field and a markedly improved 84 per cent from the line. The loss dropped Baylor to a 5-5 SWC slate while SMU is 3-7. Baylor is 12-8 for the year and SMU 4-16. A crowd of 6,000 watched as SMU built a 37-35 halftime lead in the see-saw battle.
