Dr. Ethel Tsutsui will discuss
the identification of birds. Win
tering hawks and their distin
guishing characteristics in the
field will be the subject of this
month’s meeting.
The club is planning a March
8 field trip to Sam Houston State
Park in Huntsville.
HANDY IMPROVEMENT—Reading speed and comprehension improvement are avail
able to all residence hall students, usually as near as the dorm president or corps unit
scholastic sergeant. In Squadron 4, materials are even more accessible. Freshman Larry

ing to use the mechanical reading pacer. By spending about an hour a week with the
Counseling and Testing Center equipment, he has increased his reading rate by 100
words per minute.

ning a large-scale recruiting
drive to increase the organiza
tion’s strength, BSU commander
Tom Wiley III announced.
The state guard, officially
organized in 1941, is an element
of the state’s military forces. Its
mission is to provide a reservoir
of military strength for use by
the State of Texas as a supple
ment to the Texas National
Guard.
Wiley said the Texas State
Guard is presently organized as
a cadre force with six defense
groups. There are 27 battalions
and 131 security units, one of
which is located at each National
Guard armory.

State Guard membership units in
the Bryan-College Station area is
available by phoning 822-1600.

“Most Pennsylvania students
think they can apply for PHEAA
aid only as a high school senior,”
the student aid director said.
“But scholarships are up to $50(1
a year and loans can be obtained
at any undergraduate level.”
In order for a student to be
considered for 1970-71 awards
or loans, completed applications
must be mailed by April 30, he
said.
