and conversations.
In addition to network news

day evening at 6:30.
The program is divided into
four news segments, campus news
and sports and community news

oriented toward activities of gen

on the Texas International Speed
way, and the “remote” production
done by the KAMU-TV crew dur
ing the last race.
“Viewpoint” is oriented toward
local issues and discussion of
topics of public information. The
first program will be a discussion
of what went on behind the scenes
in order for KAMU-TV to begin
broadcasting. The viewer will
learn the technical problems that
had to be overcome, as well as
what goes into preparations for
a live television program.
The next “Viewpoint” program
will discuss the Brazos County
Community - Council as a new
means of community development.
Special productions will also be
a part of KAMU programming.
There is room in the schedule to
permit use of prime television
time to cover public affairs and
current events.
KAMU-TV also has several
children’s programs scheduled for
regular viewing.

“Misteroger’s Neighbor
hood” will be shown Monday
through Friday at 5 p.m. and is
oriented specifically toward
three-to-seven-year-olds.
Following “Misteroger’s Neigh
borhood” each day will be the
well known “Sesame Street”
series. Topics such as family
roles, letters, numbers, the differ
ence between “before” and “af
ter,” a filmed visit with a giraffe,
counting and a demonstration of
how a magnifying glass works
are all regular parts of this edu
cational and entertaining program
for children.
“What’s New,” though initially
scheduled as a children’s pro
gram, has also become increasing
ly popular with people of all ages.
Shown daily at 7 p.m., “What’s
New” will visit with Margie
King, who demonstrates her hob
by, witchcraft; take a trip to
historic New Salem, Illinois,
where Abe Lincoln grew up; and
visit with Dan Posin, who will
discuss various space themes,
such as the moon and Mars.
“Kukla, Fran and Ollie” will
be revived for four weeks on
Monday nights at 8:30 for chil
dren and adults of all ages.
Programs of the performing
arts, such as “NET Playhouse,”
“The Toy That Grew Up,” “The
Creative Person,” “NET Jazz,”
“NET Festival,” “The Show,” and
“Forsyte Saga” will be featured
regularly on KAMU-TV.
“NET Playhouse,” now in its
fourth season of production, will
be shown every Wednesday night
at 7:30. Dramas to be shown in
clude the works of American,
British and Canadian playwrights,
with the show producers constant
ly looking for new talertt.
“NET Festival” is the home
for all non-drama performance
programs and generally for docu
mentary and informational pro
grams in the arts. Featured will
be materials dealing with cre
ative artists both of the past and
present, performing groups in all
areas of theater, masterworks of
all periods, and unusual film
studies of places, people and
events.
“The Toy That Grew Up” will
be shown each Wednesday night
at 9:00 and is devoted to showing
films of the past.
“The Show,” a program for the
teen and young adult set, can be
seen every Thursday night on
Channel 15 at 10:00. Guests usual
ly include popular groups, enter
tainers and writets.
Afternoon programs on KA
MU-TV will be mainly instruc
tional, as will some evening pro
grams.
The purpose behind afternoon
programming is to offer educa
tional aids for both teachers and
students in the secondary school
and college level.
Some afternoon programs will
be designed to provide a review
for A&M students who are taking
courses which use closed-circuit
TV.
Other afternoon programs are
meant to provide enrichment of
normal studies in the public
school classroom. In many cases,
teachers will be able to use a
program to illustrate different
aspects of a subject. One such
example will be the “What’s New”
program, “Where Lincoln Grew
Up.” This feature will be shown
twice daily in the afternoon so
that teachers can use it in their
classes.
At 7:30 on Tuesday evenings,
“Folk Guitar” will be shown, fea
turing Laura Weber, who has 22
years experience as a guitar
instructor. The show will be re
peated at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays
for those who were unable to see
the Tuesday show.
Study guides are available and
necessary to any viewer who
wishes to get full value from the
series.
