MSC Travel Committee chair- ‘Sycamore Trees’ Rehearsal Begun Under a sycamore tree is the location of the ant colony that first discovers human emotion, and later figures out the answers to human problems. “Under the Sycamore Tree” is the name of Samuel Spewack’s hilarious satire on humans from the point of view of an ant. “Under the Sycamore Tree” is the Aggie Players’ next produc tion, scheduled for March 11-13 and 19-21. Rehearsal has begun and crews, now chosen, have begun work on the technical aspects of the play. Stage Manager for the produc tion, directed by Robert Wenck, is James Dennis. Wenck’s assist ant director is Travis Miller. Costumes will be done by Karen Buckland and Wally Bergquist. What costumes are needed to por tray an ant? Tights, and coat hangers with ping pong balls attached for antennae. James Dennis will be in charge of the set crew, consisting of Paul Peterson, Robert Anderson and Scott Wilson. Already, the huge, revolving ant hill is begin ning to take shape. A rotating platform has been set up, and wood, chicken wire and paper mache will complete the hill. Irene Fazzino (crew head) and Jean Linger will be obtaining the various props needed for the show. Lights will be handled by Lucy Gravett (crew head) and Bob Robinson. Sound will be done by Melanie Haldas. House and publicity is headed by Kathy Maxwell. Helping her are Glen Thompson, Kay Slowey, Mary Hanna and Cecelia Loff. Voices of human beings who will never be seen, but will never theless have a definite impact on life in the ant colony are the Federal Communications Commis sion Monitor, James Dennis; the Ham Radio Operator, Paul Peter son; Sgt. Robinson, Bob Robin son and Capt. Roland, Robert Anderson. Barbara Beals will be the announcer in the colony. The Aggie Players’ director is C. K. Esten and the production is sponsored by the Theater Arts Section of the Department of English. man Paul Scopel of Seguin said the post office area booth also will show slides made by A&M Experimenters. The booth manned by travel committee members will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily. Scopel noted A&M led the na tion last summer with 19 Experi menters living with families in Australia, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hol land, Poland, Sweden, Switzer land and the USSR. The com mittee has set a 40-participant goal for 1970. Application for Kenya, India, Israel, Austria, Ireland, Czecho slovakia, Soviet Russia, Germany and Switzerland have been made so far, the committee chairman indicated. EIL can arrange fam ily membership in 40 countries. The Experiment enables stu dents to obtain culturally broad ening experience in a foreign country. The program is de signed to promote international good will on the premise that a person best learns to understand another people and their culture by living among them. After living with a family sev eral weeks, the Experimenter and a “brother” or “sister” travel with other EIL participants to major interest centers in the country. Scopel said information about an overseas loan program also will be available. FORMER STUDENTS’ GIFT—James L.
