Aggie Fish Host Wogs Here Tonight
The 1969 edition of the Texas
Aggie freshman football team
will get their first taste of action
tonight in Kyle Field when they
host the Texas Christian Wogs
at 7:30.
The Aggies are generally ac
corded to have the best crop of
recruits of anyone in the South
west Conference but they will
only be able to do as well as last
year’s team, which posted a 5-0
mark.
“We’re looking forward to the
game,” Fish Coach Jim Keller
said. “The players have been
working hard and have a good
attitude. We’ll be able to evalu
ate them better after we’ve
played this first game, but I
think they’ll be alright.
Starting for the Fish at quar
terback will be Lex James, a 6-0,
180-pounder from Houston Sam
Houston. Joining him in the back-
field will be Raymond Peak (6-1,
195) at tailback, Jimmy Aycock
(6-1, 185) at fullback, and Tommy
Goodwin (6-1, 190) at wingback.
At split end will be John Swee-
den (6-2, 190), at weak tackle
Mike Faulkner (6-3, 215), weak
guard Fred Placke (6-0, 205),
center Robert Gerasimowicz (6-2,
225), strong guard Buster Calla-

14-0, and Squadron 1, command
ed by Frank Montalbano III of
Beaumont, impressed with a 22-6
win over Company H-2.
Other Class A football winners
were Squadron 11 commanded by
Bill Richard of San Antonio;
Company E-l, Mike Villars of
Houston, and B-l, Roily Lump
kins of Mason, Class A also has
bowling and handball going.
Class B basketball was inaug

Six freshmen yell leaders have

during 1969-70.
They are Don R. Magruder,
head fish yell leader and Squad

Gary R. Cummings, B-2, Dickin
son; Ross T. Jones, B-2, Midland;
Stephen A. Smith, Squadron 2,
College Station, and Roy E.
Mitchell, B-2, Houston.
“Normally, there are five fresh
men yell leaders,” said J. Malone
Southerland, selection committee
chairman pointed out. “but the

were so outstanding, we felt the
sixth had to be included.”
The secondary will be com

head (5-10, 175) at right halfback

James at quarterback on offense.
“TCU usually has a good fresh
man team, and they started work
ing out before we did,” Keller
said. “It should be a real good
game.”
The Wogs have top receivers
in Brownwood’s Lane Bowen and
Wichita Falls’ Ervin Garnett. Jim
Montgomery, younger brother of
former TCU star Ross, will start
at center.
Ticket booths will open at 5:45
