Astros Host Phillies In Dome
The Houston Astros will meet
the Philadelphia Phillies in a
short four-game homestand at the
Astrodome on Thursday, Friday
and Saturday nights and Sunday
at 2:00 pm., as they swing back
into action against Eastern Di
vision opponents.
The Phillies, who have been
playing improved baseball since
losing their controversial slugger
Richie Allen, will be making their
second and final visit of the sea
son to the Astrodome.
The four-game series will be
highlighted by a "Fish 'N Surf”
night Saturday night at which
thousands of dollars of fishing
and surfing equipment will be
given to some lucky fans in a
special drawing. The gifts will
include a 1966 Chevrolet station
wagon from MacRobert Chevro
let, a boat, motor, trailer and
camper from Woolco, Garcia and
Mitchell rods and reels, ice chests,
tackle boxes, and ten professional
surfboards from Oshman’s sport
ing goods.
Sunday, July 27 will be “Family
Day” with youngsters, 14 or un
der and accompanied by an adult,
receiving a one dollar reduction
on box and reserved seats.
The Astros hope to continue
their winning ways against the
Eastern clubs—Houston won 21
and lost 13 for a .618 percentage
during the spring contests with
the East. The Astros hold a 4-1
lead over the Phils this season.
The Astros hit the road after
the Phillies series and return
home on August 4 for games with
the Chicago Cubs August 4, 5 and
6, Montreal on August 8, 9 and
10 and the New York Mets on
August 11, 12 and 13.

Three Negro college football
games have been added to the
Astrodome’s 1969 fall schedule,
The months of July and August
will be important ones for the
Houston Astros. The club’s sched
ule shows mostly road action dur
ing those months: 31 games on
foreign fields as against 23 in
the Astrodome.
Texas A&M will host the AAU
Region 9 swimming champion
ships Friday and Saturday at
Wofford Cain Pool.
Emil Mamaliga, A&M health
and physical education professor
who will serve as meet director,
estimated the event will draw 200
participants.
The meet is open to any regis
tered AAU swimmer who is at
least 12 years old and resides in
Region 9, Mamaliga noted. The
region includes the eastern half
of Texas and a portion of Louisi
ana.
Entries are expected from most
of the larger cities of Texas.
Mamaliga said qualifying times
in the meet here are applicable
for selection for the national
AAU meet later in the year.
He noted the weekend meet
will include some diving events.
Preliminaries start at 10 a.m.
and finals at 6:45 p.m. each day.
General admission is 25 cents
per person.

been a good - finishing team.
