Marine Extension Develops

Texas A&M is developing a
long-range program to station
marine extension specialists along
the Gulf Coast, just as it now
supports agricultural agents
throughout the state.
The project, which emphasizes
applied research, demonstration
and education, is supported by
Texas A&M’s Sea Grant Program
and is part of the university’s
Texas Agricultural Extension
Service.
Last year Texas A&M was one
of six U. S. universities selected
by the National Science Founda
tion for major institutional sup
port to develop the nation’s ma
rine resources. Texas A&M this
month received a $750,000 NSF
grant for second-year operations.

A promising approach is con

County, south of Houston, and
is receiving valuable assistance

A Texas Department of Corrections colt get wormed in a joint struggle by Texas A&ll
veterinary medicine students and a Goree unit inmate. Observing the treatment are Rich
ard Beck (left), who has charge of Goree horse operations, and Dr. W. M. Romane of the
A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Numerous activities such as this occur daily
throughout the prison system through an interagency contract between TDC and the
A&M college.
