of several state - supported
institutions designed to edu
cate mentally retarded chil
dren and adults, is unique
in that it is on the site of
a former camp for German
prisoners of war during
World War II. Several of
the POW camp buildings,
including the gymnasium
where Annella helps with
some of the school’s phy
sical-therapy work, are still
standing.
