Kunkel said the biochemist is widely noted for his research in the chemistry and metabolism of amino acids and proteins. His “stature and prestige as a scien tist are evidenced by a long record of projects funded by the Robert A. Welch Foundation, U. S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, and the Manned Space craft Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Adminis tration.” Prescott was born in San Marcos, Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Prescott, Sr. He received a BS degree in chem istry in 1941 from Southwest Texas State College, the MS de gree in biochemistry and nutri tion in 1949 at Texas A&M, and his doctorate in biochemistry in 1952 at the University of Wis consin.
