SENATE
(Continued From Page 1)
ed and the recommendation was
directed to the Athletic Depart
ment.
THE SENATE also heard a
report from Maddox on this
week’s dismissal of three students
charged with burglary after
Campus Security patrolmen
found them in the Administration
Building late Friday night.
Maddox said Campus Security
Chief Ed Powell told him patrol
men had recently been assigned
to watch the building at night
and that a check had been made
“about an hour” before the stu
dents were seen, indicating the
doors were locked.
Brian Foye and Bill Fischer,
two of the three involved, were,
asked to explain the situation to
the Senate. Foye, who claims
membership in Students for a
Democratic Society, said he,
Fischer and freshman psychol
ogy major Larry Gill had entered
the building through an unlocked
front door “to see what the in
side of the building looked like.”
“WE WEREN’T trying to
sneak in,” he added in response
to questions. “We went in the
front entrance, which is lit by
floodlights.
“As we were standing around
looking at the tile map of Texas
on the foyer floor, two Campus
Security men entered the build
ing and asked us to identify our
selves,” Foye said. “When they
found out I was the infamous
Brian Foye, that was all she
wrote.”
Asked by a Senator if they had
used a key to the building, Foye
said they had not and that “we
wish they had searched us, be
cause they wouldn’t have found
one.”
Carter explained to the Senate
that this examination of the in
cident “was not meant to bring
any action by the Senate, but as
a means of giving you some in
formation on the situation.”
IN OTHER business, the Sen
ate approved a recommendation
by Callahan that student activity
fees be re-allocated, providing
less money for health services
and more for athletics, MSC
facilities and programs, Town
Hall, Political Forum, Great Is
sues, the Student Senate and
student publications.
“The reason we’re able to cut
tion,” Callahan explained, “is
that the University Hospital
funds have generally produced a
surplus, which is building up to
ward construction of a new hos
pital. We have learned that this
surplus, which probably will soon
be matched by a grant from the
Department of Health, Educa
tion and Welfare, is large enough
for that purpose.”
The proposed change, he add
ed, would leave approximately
the same amount for an actual
operating budget.
Before adjourning, the Senate
unanimously passed a resolution
commending the Singing Cadets
for their efforts as representa
tives of A&M. Maddox asked
the recognition in view of this
weekend’s significance as “Sing
ing Cadet” weekend.
