I. Hayakawa, but were repelled by six policemen with drawn pistols and Mace repellent. Several hundred police who had been held in reserve off the campus quickly cleared the quadrangle outside of about 2,- 000 persons in a elub-swinging struggle. At least 13 persons were ar rested, including Dr. Carlton Goodlett, Negro publisher; and the Rev. Jerry Pederson, Luther an chaplain at Ecumenical House, staging center for the demonstration. As the crowd of about 150 that had burst into the Administra tion Building fled in confusion, one of them dropped a brief case. Out popped a .45 caliber auto matic. Inside the case were bat teries and wires. Leaders of the strike, which has disrupted the college since it was called by the Black Students Union Nov. 6, made the march on Hayakawa’s office at the cli max to a lunchtime rally. Papers by Dr. Carroll D. Lav- erty, English professor, and Dr. Lloyd C. Taylor associate pro fessor of history, follow a con ference theme of “Some Reflec tions Upon Modern America.” Vice president of the Texas chapter of ASA is Dr. J. M. Nance, History Department head. Laverty’s paper is titled “Poetry Reflects the MOD World.” “Eleanor Roosevelt, Ed ward Hopper and the American Democratic Faith” will be given by Taylor. Other topics in the one-day meeting at the University of Texas cover the modern Ameri can protest song, revolutionary theater and the black arts move ment, religious aspects of hip- sterism and American work cult and concepts of job creation vs. guaranteed annual income. Texas A&M students planning to apply for the Air Force ROTC two-year program must meet four major requirements, dead lines for which are approaching. To enter the professional of ficer course next September, the student must take the Air Force officer qualification test, have an Air Force-administered physi cal, meet an interview board and complete a six-week field train ing course next summer, noted Col. Vernon L. Head, professor of aerospace studies. “The AFOQT will be given Dec. 14,” Colonel Head added. “All program applicants should contact Maj. Charles Haney or Maj. Ray Copus before Dec. 13.” SUCCESSFUL completion of the test and the physical must precede forwarding of applica tions to AFROTC Headquarters, Maxwell AFB, Ala., where final selection and summer training assignment are made. Object of the two and four- year ROTC programs is to place on active duty lieutenants who have the knowledge and poten tial to become competent leaders and managers, Head noted. “This year, stronger than ever emphasis is being placed on ca reer areas most needed by the Air Force — pilots, navigators and engineers,” he went on. “Air Force has very limited need for liberal arts majors who are not flying qualified. Most desirable is the engineer who Begins his PAKISTAN v ;. • <—■ ■* "■* (Continued From Page 1) it were, there would be no differ ence between a great power and Ghengas Khan, who slaughtered hundreds of thousands. Cadets in the two-year pro gram receive $50 per month in non-taxable pay. Pilot category cadets can receive private pilot license-equivalent flight training at Air Force expense while com pleting degree work. The Flight Instruction Pro gram consists of 36 ^ hours fly ing in light aircraft and ground school on weather, navigation and civil air regulations. Suc cessful completion of the pro gram and passing the FAA exam qualifies the student for a private license. Colonel Head said the AFOQT will be given at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 14 in Room 321 of the physics building. N -UNDERSTANDING COMES FASTER WITH CUFF'S NOTES!
