Emphasizing a program for
civilian student unity, the resi
dents of Walton Hall are continu
ing a number of year-long ac
tivities.
“As an added social function,
we sponsored a noon-time steak
fry in Hensel Park last Saturday
for the residents of the hall,” said
Andy Scott, president of Walton.
Honored guests for the function
were Dr. and Mrs. Hollis Bowen,

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cooper, Civilian
Student Director, and Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Perry, Program Ad
visor for the Pilot Program.
Earlier in the year the resi
dents of the largest civilian dor
mitory sponsored a car smash
before the Texas Tech football
game to show student spirit. The
Aggie football coaching staff,-
members of the team, and the
student body helped smash the
cars, which represented the Tech
team.
After the Tech game, Walton
co-sponsored a dance with Hughes
Hall, which was attended by a
large number of students.
Ten committees are currently
working on activities for the rest
of the year. Walton members vote
on the activities proposed by the
committees and have shown over
whelming support in the past.
At present residents of the hall
are participating in semi-final
play-offs of the intramural pro
gram. However, grades are not
being neglected, as the 135 Wal
ton freshmen are being encour
aged to crack the books.
“To relieve the tensions built
up by studying, we have also
started a number of informal dis
cussions on Monday nights,” said
Scott.
Special Walton Activity Cards,
designed by the members, have
been issued to the residents. The
white cards are engraved with
a gold eagle and shield, and have
maroon lettering- A short biog
raphy of T. O. Walton, president
of A&M for 17 years, is on one
side of the card.
Other officers of the Walton
Club are Carl Kinney—vice-presi
dent, Richard Ferguson — secre
tary, Jim Story—treasurer, and
Dale Odum—freshman president.

PORTLAND, Ore. <A > >—A 36-
year-old Republican state legisla
tor upset Sen. Wayne Morse, the
24-year Democratic veteran from
Oregon, in nearly complete un
official returns today.
With 2,551 of the state’s 2,606
precincts reporting, Republican
Robert Packwood held a 379,729
to 367,642 lead over Morse, a vo
ciferous critic of this country’s
Vietnam policy. The margin was
12,087.
PACKWOOD SAID he differs
from Morse on getting out of
Vietnam. Packwood said he fa
vors staying there if the South
Vietnamese government takes
steps to bring about land reform
and end corruption. But he fa
vors getting out if they don’t.
Oregon had elected Morse as
a Republican and later as a
Democrat, but it became appar
ent this spring that he was in
trouble.
It started two years ago when
some . Democrats became disen
chanted with Morse for support
ing Republican Mark Hatfield’s
successful campaign against
Democrat Robert Duncan for the
U. S. Senate.
HATFIELD’S VIETNAM views
were close to those of Morse,
while Duncan was a supporter
of President Johnson.
Packwood is a Portland law
yer who has served three terms
in the Oregon House of Repre
sentatives, where he became a
leader of Republican forces.
