for the next seven months.

to Adelaide, Australia, to board
the “Dtahin” in early August.
The National Science Founda
tion oceanographic research ship
will ply waters between Austra
lia, New Zealand and Antarctica.
Dobrocky, McKay and Soto
will collect primary productivity
data, measurements and samples
Zooplankton samples also will
1m collected for the Smithsonian
Institution.
The three technicians will be
at sea 60 days, have 10 days
leave in Australia and return to
the Eltanin for futher south
probes later during the southern
hemisphere summer. During the
Eltanin's second run, samples and
measurements will be taken at
the edge of the Antarctic ice
shelf. I
Dobrocky will return to the
campus in December to accom
pany George Weiss berg on a
cruise of the ice-breaker “Gla
cier” MU the Weddell Sea on
the opposite aide of Antarctica.

will try to pick up bottom-or
iented current meters deposited
on a cruise on which El-
Sayed reported discovery of a
6,000 square mile area of marine
life in ieo-\pcked frigid waters.
McKay and Soto will remain
on the Eltanin for their third
cruise and be Joined for the fourth
—the Eltanin's 88th in the series
—by Weiss berg and Dobrocky in
early 1969.
Weiss berg is an oceanography
graduate student from German
town, Pa.
McKay will operate special ap
paratus on the cruises. The “au
toanalyser" on which he received
manufacturers training in New
York City measures concentra
tions of chemicals in a solution.
Firemen’s Training School
Has International Accent
Texas A*M’s 29th annual Fire-
men's Training School took on a
national and international flavor
this week for its session on in
dustrial fire protection.
Chief Henry D. Smith, who
directs the school for AAM's En
gineering Intension Service, said
80 states and 18 foreign coun
tries and U. Ss territories are
represented smoZg 882 students
registered for the course.
The school this your attracted
participants from aa far away as
Lebanon, Libya, Saudi Arabia and
Kuwait. Other countries repre
sented include Germany, Yens-
xoela, Canada and Mexico.
Smith said student registration
for the industrial course exceeded
the 1987 figure by 70. Total par
ticipation this year is 617.
