Another reason is the money made available to the state from horse race betting. In 1966, New York took in $77 million in revenue from pari-mutuel betting on thorough breds alone. A combination figure which includes the above plus harness and quarter horse racing in New York came to $148,173,782. It can be noted from these figures that New York does not face the revenue problems that Texas does. We think its time that the people of Texas recognize the money-mak ing advantages of pari-mutuel betting. If they would quit listening to those dark-side opinions and finally face the true facts of pari-mutuel betting—with out emotional overtones—the answer would be evident: Vote for pari-mutuel betting! We join with the TRA in the support of pari-mutuel horse racing for Texas. Lets make Texas a place where not only cowboys ride horses for a living. s Praises Maroon Squad Coach Gene Stallinga has some | rood words for his “maroon" squads as the second week of I spring football training works | toward completion. The offense and defense first! teams, which wear the maroon jersies, have performed to ex pectations, according to the Ag-| gie mentor. However, he was not happy I with the second and third teams.! He noted that some of them look ed at times like they were letting | down in effort. The spring game is still morel than two weeks away, so Stall-1 ings and his staff will be search ing hard for those candidates { they will call back for fall prac-| tie*.
