Billington
On‘Hope’
Robert J. Billington of Omaha,
Neb., a g-raduate architecture
student at Texas A&M, will repre
sent the university this fall aboard
the "Hope” ship in Ceylon.
Billington, a 21-year-old dis
tinguished student seeking a
master of architecture degree in
health facilities research, will join
the "Hope” staff Sept. 1.
The “Hope,” a 15-000-ton hos
pital ship, is the principal activity
of the People-to-People Founda
tion of Washington, D. C. Objec
tive of the independent, non-profit
corporation is to teach medical,
dental and technological personnel
in developing countries the latest
techniques of U. S. medical
science.
Edward J. Romieniee, A&M’s
School of Architecture chairman,
said Billington, who worked with
the Peace Corps in Samoa last
summer, will spend four months
with the “Hope” to help add an
architectural dimension to the
over-all program.
Romieniee noted Billington was
chosen from 14 applicants because
of his professional experience in
foreign countries. In addition to
the Samoa assignment, he studied
architecture in England in the
summer of 1966 as an exchange
student. He also has traveled in
other countries with his parents,
Lt. Col. and Mrs. R. J. Billington,
now living in Nokesville, Va.
“Billington’s education and com
prehension of health planning
problems will be greatly enhanced
by this experience abroad,” Ro-
mieniec commented. “We at A&M
are proud to contribute to the
‘Hope’s’ program.”
Billington is to receive six col
legiate hours of credit toward the
master’s degree, which he is
scheduled to earn at the end of
the fall term.
Hospital Plan
Experts Visit
Architecture
Two hospital authorities will
visit Thursday with graduate stu
dents in the School of Architec
ture’s program in health facilities
research.

tect James Moore, president of
Medical Planning Associates,
Malibu, Calif., and Drexel F.
Toland, assistant administrator of
Baptist Memorial Hospital, Mem
phis, Tenn., will discuss new con
cepts in health facilities.
Romieniee, who called the
visitations an important, prac
tical aspect of architectural edu
cation, noted Moore is involved
in the planning of 36 hospitals
across the nation.
