The Aggie track team, minus
Lonny Noel, Richard Ball, Rockie
Woods and Steve O’Neal, travel
to the hills of Arkansas Saturday
for a quadrangular meet in Fay
etteville.
The meet, an all Southwest Con
ference team affair, will pit Coach
Charley Thomas’ squad against
Rice, Texas Christian University
and Arkansas.
THE FOUR doubtful Aggies
are hampered by injuries and will
not be able to compete in their
specialities although Woods may
try the high jump and O’Neal
the broad jump.
Although originally scheduled
for the afternoon the meet has
been moved up to 11 am. due
to an Arkansas football scrim
mage.
Headquarters for the Aggies
will be at the Trade Winds in
Springdale right outside Fayette
ville. The team left College Sta
tion today at 1.
George Resley and Ronny Light-
foot will be out to better their
conference leading efforts in the
shot in the meet. Resley tops the
SWC with a 57-4 toss while Light-
foot is second with a 56-6 Vi ef
fort.
MARTIN Rollins is the only
other SWC leading Aggie with a
top mark of 16-1 Vi in the pole
vault.
Another chance at Rice’s Conley
Brown will be in the offering for
freshman Curtis Mills. Brown,
one of the most heraled perform
ers in the conference, finished
third behind second place Mills
in the Texas tri-meet last week
end.
Jack Abbott, second in the con
ference behind Jerry Utecht of
Southern Methodist University in
the 120-yard high hurdles, will
be attempting to improve on his
season’s best of 14.2.
A&M’s mile and 440 yard relay
team’s are also expected to pro
vide a challenge in the Arkansas
meet.

The Texas Aggie baseball team
gets back into Southwest Con
ference action today and Satur
day in a three-game series with
Texas Tech at Lubbock.
A doubleheader today will be
followed by a single game Satur
day.
Coach Tom Chandler’s nine is
currently 4-3 in SWC play and
will be looking for a sweep of the
Red Raiders to stay in contention
for the league crown.
TEXAS TECH is in its first
year of SWC baseball play this
season. Coach Kal Segrist’s char
ges are currently in last place in
the conference race. This will not
be the two team’s first meeting
on the diamond however, as the
Aggies have been playing Tech
in previous seasons in non-con
ference encounters.
Chandler has selected Rick
Schwartz and Dave Benesh to
pitch todays’ games with either
Walter Varvel or Doug Rau slated
for Saturday.
Schwartz, has been turning in
some impressive statistics in re
cent games. The 6-1 senior from
Brownsville had not given up an
earned run for a month but had
it broken in the Aggies’ double-
header win over Houston Monday.
ANOTHER STRING was brok
en: for the Aggies earlier this
month, when the Baylor Bears
stopped the Maroon and White 1 !
winning streak at seven. The
Bear’s ace pitcher John Bevji
shutout the Aggies 2-0 and gave
them their third conference loss
This game turned out to be the
two teams’ final match for 19®
The next day’s game was rained
out and will not be replayed. Bay.
lor and Bevil stopped the Aggies
in the other game earlier at Wj.
co, 5-0.
The Aggies are in second place
in SWC play behind Texas and
just ahead of Baylor and Texas
Christian in third place.
