The signing of Hayes, Uni versity of Houston’s “Big E,” was announced at a news confer ence by Robert Breitbard, Roc kets’ owner. Terms of the con tract were not announced, except that it is a “multiple-year’’ pact. However, it is believed the 6- foot 9% All-American from Ray- ville, La., received in excess of $110,000 for each of the next four years. ★ ★ ★ AUGUSTA, Ga. > — The New Zealand Olympic Committee approved the action of the International Olympic Com mittee regarding the re-admission of South Africa Tuesday and vot ed to compete in the Oct. 12-27 Games at Mexico City. ★ ★ ★ HOUSTON > — The Houston Oilers of the American Football League and the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League announced Wednesday they will meet in an exhibition game in the Astrodome Aug. 18. The Oilers completed their 1968 exhibition schedule with the an nouncement of the game. The de fending AFL Eastern Division champions will play five pre-sea son contests, four in the Astro dome. Other Oiler exhibition games will be against the Washington Redskins, Aug. 1; New York Jets, Aug. 12; Dallas Cowboys, Aug. 31, all in the Astrodome, and the Buffalo Bills, Aug. 23, at Tulsa. ★ ★ ★ WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. ) — Atlanta slugger Rico Carty was to be taken to the Southeast Florida Tuberculosis Hospital Wednesday night for extensive examinations to determine if he has tuberculosis^ The Braves said Wednesday morning that the left fielder ap parently had tuberculosis, but later in the day Trainer Harvey Stone said Carty’s illness may be pneumonia. “There are some indications that it is TB,” Stone said. “But it definitely is not proven. We may not know for another three days.” Stone said he planned to take Carty to the tuberculosis hospital at nearby Latana where addi tional test were planned. Other Atlanta players and team officials were being tested to de termine if they had contracted the disease. Bengal Boosters Set Track Meet At Kyle Field The Bengal Boosters Club of A&M Consolidated schools will sponsor its annual junior high school track meet at Kyle Field Saturday. This was announced by J. O. Alexander, club president. Eight schools have entered their teams for both the seventh and eighth grade classes of events. Registration and field events will start at 9 a.m. and the prelimin aries of the running events will get under way an hour later at 10. Separate events will be held for respective seventh and eighth grade teams.
