The best way to find out what’s
going on is to read a newspaper
or listen to radio or TV.
A Texas Aggie and his twin
brother in Vietnam proved it.
Pfc Warren D. Hillman, 19,
was struck in the right leg by a
golfball-size grenade from an ac
cidentally fired 79mm launcher.
An Army surgeon remove the
live grenade Sunday.
A newsman informed the sol
dier’s older brother, Gene, about
the mishap and successful oper
ation. His parents, Mr. and Mrs.
A. C. Hillman of Buckholts, re
ceived word by phone from a
friend who had picked it up in
the news.
Warren’s twin brother Wayne,
a freshman agricultural educa
tion major at A&M, learned the
news from a friend at dinner
Monday.
“One of my buddies from Cam
eron, Jerry Heitman, told me
about it,” the Hillman twin re
lated.

THE BATTALION
Wednesday, March 27, 1968
College Station, Texas
“I didn’t believe him until he
showed me a newspaper article.
It’s still hard to conceive,”
Wayne explained.
“Bobby came by to tell me last
night,” the Aggie twin said. “He
heard about it on the news or
read it in the paper.”
The injured soldier is to be
evacuated to the U.S. following
surgery at Da Nang. He had
been on ambush patrols with
Company B, 1st Battalion, 46th
Infantry, near Saigon.
Mrs. Hillman said the govern
ment may have tried to contact
them, but the family had been
waiting at a hospital where their
daughter, Mrs. Keith Knipel,
gave birth to a girl early Mon
day.
Wayne’s roommates read about
the family’s delay in learning of
Warren’s operation in a Tuesday
newspaper. They were the first
to tell the Aggie twin his sister’s
baby arrived.
