state grain market boycott by
the National Farmers Organiza
tion was extended to meat Mon
day in the second phase of an
all-commodity withholding action
aimed at boosting prices.
The meat embargo was called
one month after the NFO in
structed its members to hold corn,
oats, wheat, rye, soybeans and
sorghums off the market until
prices reached predetermined
levels.
THE FINAL PHASE of the
action, a milk sales boycott, is
planned at an as yet unscheduled
date, said NFO president Oren
Lee Staley.
The organization urged its
members to hold cattle, hogs and
sheep from packing houses until
prices rise as much as six cents
a pound.
“WE’RE PREPARED to hold
whatever time it takes,” said
Staley. “How long the action lasts
will depend on the desire of the
packing industry to fight.”
The militant farmer group
wants cattle prices increased from
26 to 32 cents per pound, hog
prices up from 19 to 23 cents
and sheep from 23 to 29 cents.
Staley said members would of
fer contracts only to those meat
packers “willing to sign and pay
the price.”

Hostile Satellites
WASHINGTON OP)—-The Pen
tagon said Monday it has been
studying various new ways to
destroy hostile satellites but “no
decision has been made to develop
a new weapons system” against
them.
The Washington Post reported
earlier the United States had de
cided to develop a weapon to
knock down enemy satellites.
The satellite threat got fresh
attention late last year when
Secretary of Defense Robert S.
McNamara disclosed the Soviet
Union was developing a fractional
orbitual bombardment system
FOBS.
FOBS actually is a satellite-
type bomb which is launched in
to sub-orbit and then is ordered
to descend to earth before com
pleting a full circuit of the earth.

ings for men and women with a
“B” average, or in the upper 25%
of their class, who will earn
Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in
1968.
While AEC will make its selec
tion on a nationwide basis, there
will be no written examination.
Those selected will be notified a
few weeks after the interview.

tricity, desalt seawater, power
space vehicles, conduct medical
research, sterilize food, and de
fend the Nation, among many

Vietnam Veteran
Finishes Training
A Vietnam veteran and Texas
A&M graduate, Army Maj. Ed
ward J. Bunn of Dallas, has com
pleted five months study at the
Armed Forces Staff College at
Norfolk, Va.
Major Bunn studied combined
operations planning and armed
forces organization for national
and international security. The
college is operated by the Joint
Chiefs of Staff for the Depart
ment of Defense.
The major holds the Air Medal,
two awards each of the Bronze
Star Medal and Commendation
Medal and the Vietnamese Gal
lantry Cross. He studied geology
at A&M, graduating and receiv
ing his commission in 1956.
