Parker, Bryan THE BATTALION Tuesday, December 5, 1967 College Station, Texas Page 3 Aggie Five Makes It Two With 106-95 Win By GARY SHERER With the 1967-68 Aggie basket ball season two games old, the Maroon and White roundballers have accomplished three things that didn’t happen in 24 games last season, Monday night, the Aggies du plicated one of the feats by knocking off the highly-touted Trinity University cagers from San Antonio, 106-95 in overtime, before 3,500 fans at G. Rollie White Coliseum. THAT FEAT WAS topping the Aggies’ best single game scoring mark of last season for the sec ond game in a row. In fact, Mon day night’s total was the best single game performance for Make - tip Schedule ALL CORPS SENIORS CLASS PICTURES DEADLINE DEC. 20th ATTENTION ! ! The other two accomplishments are: (1) winning a game on the road and (2) a two-game winning streak. One didn’t have to be told that this is an improved Aggie bas ketball squad as just eyesight was enough. This game came on the heels of the Aggies’ Friday night 84-77 victory over Louisi ana Tech at Rustin, La. Where Billy Bob Barnett was the high scorer at Louisiana with 24 points, the top man honors shifted to sophomore Mike Heit- man Monday night. HEITMANN, the leading scorer for the Fish last year with a 21.9 average, led the Aggie score sheet with 28 points. What was most significant about the Hous tonian’s performance was that 21 of his total came in the second half. Heitman set the pace for the Aggies’ hot second half shooting performance with 7 of 11 from the field in the second 20 minutes. The Aggies missed just 10 shots in the second half but Trin ity put up 27 more shots to erase the nine-point lead the Aggies had taken to the dressing room at halftime. Trinity not only erased the lead, they took the long end of the score at the 1:40 mark of the second half. With Trinity up 87-84, Heit man personally wiped out the three-point deficit in the 21 sec onds that remained in the game. The Sam Houston High product hit on a driving layup and was fouled by a Trinity player and the 6-4 blond cooly sank the foul shot to give him the all-important three-point play. THE AGGIES didn’t have to come from behind again as Trin ity lost three players on fouls in the five-minute overtime and the Aggies coasted home. Heitmann, who also topped the Aggie rebound totals with 13, received lots of assistance from his teammates. Ronnie Peret, who carried the scoring load in the first half, popped in 21 points to take runner-up honors for the Aggies. Senior John Underwood who was the floor general for the Maroon and White, was next with 16 markers. It was Underwood’s two jump shots that pulled the Aggies to their 41-32 halftime lead. Captain Terry Trippet and Tyler JC transfer Harry Bostic were next with 14 and 12, respec tively. Trippet’s harassment of Trinity’s big gun Larry Jeffries in the second half added to the final result. JEFFRIES finished with 31 points to take game honors but Trippet hounded the talented jun ior from Illinois to a 4 of 11 field goal performance in the final 25 minutes. Jeffries, however, did his damage from the foul line as he threw in nine free ones in the second half. Bostic, who was the top re bounder for the Aggies Friday night with nine, pulled down 11 errant shots to place second to Heitmann in the department. The 6-6 St. Paul, Ind., product, who led Tyler JC in scoring last sea son, scored 15 points in the Lou isiana Tech game. Barnett finished with seven points as the Brenham junior had to sit out a lot of the action be- BATTALION CLASSIFIED 0n« day WANT AD RATES r per 4 per word each additional day MvnYnvam chars Schuli rarse— Classified Displs col' jch ins day 90tf per column inch each insert DEADLINE HELP WANTED Rovcistered nurse for school.
