Last week’s football predictions were slightly better
-4-0), but the season’s record (11-10-0) makes me feel
;e Richard Kimball being chased by Lieutenant Gerard.
The boob tube offers a full slate of programs each night
a precision-like schedule with a minimum of mistakes,
ith the advent of video tape, TV ‘boo-boo’s are now non-
Istent.
We wish that it were possible to use video tape when
aking football predictions. Then, we could pick two dif-
rent versions and then show the right one after the games
>re played. Unfortunately, like the TV program that
esn’t make even one season, we must try for something
tter.
Here goes another try at winning a prediction ‘emmy.’

lis series is as old as TV reruns.
Success in football predicting can be likened to the
iw program that goes up against the ‘Ed Sullivan Show’
the TV ratings. It usually meets with instant destruction
amove to something else.
But, as the Fugitive always knew he would find the
le-armed man, we will keep trying for a perfect series of
cks. If that happens, maybe we might win that ‘emmy’
vard after all.

‘Pride Of Paris ’
Gets Job Done
BOB LONG
Aggies’ candidate for ‘Mr. Versatility’
If there is a better or more
versatile athlete around than
Texas A&M’s Bob Long, the Ag
gies would like to match him
against the “Pride of Paris” in
a lot of contests.
Long currently is best known
as a wingback-split end on
A&M’s football unit. But, name
your game and Long is apt to pin
back your ears in nothing flat.
Last spring he decided to see
if he could help coach Tom Chan
dler’s Aggies in baseball. He
quickly won the centerfield post
and was named on the SWC sec
ond-team at the season’s end.
He southpaws his way around
the golf course in the 70s, plays
a smashing game of tennis, can
vix-tually run the table in pool, is
an adept basketball player and
could probable be a seven-sport
star at Aggieland if there wasn’t
a rule about having to attend
classes.

Injuries and inexperience, these
are the two big problems facing
Aggie Head Football Coach Gene
Stallings, as he prepares for this
week’s Southwest Conference bat
tle with Texas Tech.
Stallings cited the injuries the
team has sustained thus far this
season have forced him to put
players in new positions. Because
of the lack of depth, mistakes
have been made in the first four
games that can be attributed to
the inexperience.
When commenting on the Flor
ida State game at his weekly
press conference, Stallings had
praise for the team as a whole
and some individual play as well.
“Overall, everybody graded high
er,” said Stallings.
“He made some of the best
blocks I’ve seen around here in
a long time,” commented Stal
lings on the blocking of fullback
Bill Sallee. The Aggie head man
also had praise for Bill Hobbs
and Grady Allen on defense and
Larry Stegent on offense.
Stallings also mentioned some
of the changes he made before
last week’s game. Rolf Krueger
was moved back to his last sea
son’s defensive tackle post and
Maurice Moorman was moved
back to weak tackle. Carl Gough
was moved in at strong guard
and Mark Weaver was moved

If you’re looking for
a short-sleeved oxford shirt
with a button-down collar,
that’s what you buy. After
you’ve checked the label.
Because a good label
guarantees a good shirt. It
means the shirt is rolled,
tapered and pleated in the
right places. And is styled
to last.
The label on this short-
sleeved button-down says
“Cum Laude” Oxford. It tells
you the shirt is Perma-lron
so it won’t wrinkle,
“Sanforized-Plus’’ and
tapered. It comes in canary,
green, purple, orange and
white. For $7.00.
The good things you’re
looking for in a shirt are all
on the label. And the best
shirts have the best labels.
They’re ours. Arrow’s.
over to weak guard.
The key to the move was Krue
ger. “He can be an outstanding
defensive tackle while just stay
an average performer when play
ing both ways,” said Stallings
about Krueger.
On Texas Tech, Stallings gen
erally felt the Aggies will have
a tough game at Lubbock’s Jones
Stadium this Saturday night. He
said that contact work will be
kept at a minimum this week so
that the team will be in better
shape for their second SWC test.
Many consider him A&M’s best
pass receiver though he isn’t the
fastest man on the club. He tends
to “out-quick” the secondary
rather than just out-run the foes.
He also is the kickoff man, is
one of the backup punters behind
Steve O’Neal and last year was
a key man in a couple of Coach
Gene Stallings, trick plays.
Against Baylor he took a hand-
off from quarterback Edd Har
gett, ran right as on a sweep,
stopped and passed back to Har
gett in the left flats. It was a
good gainer that started a touch
down drive. Against Texas he re
ceived a kickoff, faked a handoff
to Lloyd Curington, headed up
the middle, then stopped and
threw a cross-field lateral to Cur
ington who raced down the side
lines 74 yards to the Texas 23,
from where the Aggies drove in
for a touchdown.
This year he has scored three
times on pass receptions and
leads the Aggies with 18 points.
But, he’d like to score less and
win more. Winning is the name
of the game for Long.
