SEC Organizes
For New Year
The newly selected representa
tives to the Student Engineers’
Council had their first meeting
of the year last week.
The Council consists of three
representatives of each recog
nized engineering s o c i e t y—an
elected junior, an appointed sen
ior, and the president of each de
partment’s technical society.
The primary function of the
council is to serve as a media to
transmit student problems, ideas,
and services to the College of
Engineering.
The Council organizes and su
pervises High School Career Day
functions, the Annual College
Awards Banquet, the TSPE and
departmental progress reports by
faculty and student representa-
tives.
The officers selected to head
ihe Council for the 1967-G8 school
year are: Edward M. Miller, an
industrial engineer from Oyster
Bay, New York, president; Rob
ert B. Stiles, an aerospace engi
neer from San Antonio, vice-
president; Fred Schwiening, an
industrial engineer from Kerr-
ville, secretary and Donald A.
Swofford, an architecture major
from McAllen, treasurer.
Civil Defense fallout shelters
and other buildings capable of
shelter space in Brazos County
will be surveyed in the next three
weeks.
U. S. Army Corps of Engineer
officials from Fort Worth will
conduct the survey to locate new
shelter space and usable water in
existing facilities. Civil engineers
Arthur F. Jones and Charles V.
Dansby will make the appraisal.
“We’re very happy to have
Jones and Dansby with us,” com
mented Jake Canglose, Brazos
County CD director. “They are
conducting a much needed phase
of our Civil Defense program.”
“We will look at every building
previously listed as shelters and
at new construction,” Jones ex
plained. “The availability of usa
ble water is one of the principal
features of the survey. Water is
often trapped in a building, in
interior piping, storage facilities
and so forth. Recording the loca
tion of such water is one pur
pose.”

take into account new buildings
and other structures that may
shelter occupants. Reports on
these structures will also be
made.”
The survey will be concentrat
ed at Texas A&M, which has the
largest complex of buildings in
Brazos County.
Brazos County has shelter
space for just over 20,000 per

lose pointed out. Location of the
CD shelters is listed in a pamph
