The Ag hooters open at home Saturday against the Allen Acad emy soccer team on the drill field in front of the Memorial Student Center. The team has picked Carlos Guerra as their captain this year to lead the team through its nine-game schedule. In addi tion to the scheduled games, there will be a tournament at Austin with many colleges invited. In addition to the varsity play, the team invites anyone interested to try out for the tournament play being organized this year. Many teams have been organized so far but there is still a need for players. The teams workout every Tuesday and Thursday night on the field south of the tennis courts. The tournament games will be played before each varsity home game. Soccer really hits Aggieland this fall. Fish Gridders Begin Practice FRESHMAN COACH Jake Helms, Texas A&M freshman football coach, goes into his third season as head of the Fish grid ders. By JERRY GRISHAM Texas A&M freshman football coach Jake Helms typifies the 57 young hopefuls who turned out Monday for the first day of prac tice as “boys with real good atti tudes who are really working.” Forty-three of the freshman squad members are attending on athletic scholarships, including three high school All-Americans and 10 all-taters. Dave Elmendorf, a 6-1, 185- pounder from Houston Westbury, was a high school All-American back as was 6-2, 185-pound Marc Black from Roswell, N.M. Mike DeNiro, a 6-0, 195-pound end from Youngstown, Ohio, was an All-American at that position. The job confronting Coach Helms at the present time is find ing the proper position for each player and the best player for each position. “It’s too early to tell who’s going to be doing what,” he com mented. He emphasized that the Fish football team would more than likely not be molded 'into the shape he wanted until about Oct. 4. The only trouble is that the first freshman game is Oct. 5 against Texas Christian in Kyle Field. This year’s team will be Helms’ third at A&M. His 1965 squad turned in a disappointing 1-4 record while last year’s Fish pro duced a respectable 2-2-1. This year’s give game schedule for the Fish is as follows: Oct. 5, Texas Christian Wogs at College Station at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 19, Baylor Cubs at College Station, HE COULD PASS DENVER :t“ , ' H'l 0M N UM?I II i; tl ABS VRfl TONIGHT AT 7:45 P.M.
