SWC Roundup By JERRY GRISHAM The Southwest Conference turns it back on fraternal warfare this week as the respective members do battle only with outsiders. Baylor was the first and only conference team to play an inter sectional game last week and its 27-7 licking by Colorado gave the SWC a faltering start. The Bears try it again this Saturday in New York against the Orangemen of Syracuse. Bay lor can expect to find the Orange men laying for them. Syracuse would like to avenge the drubbing the Bears gave them a national television last year. IF SMU can manage to down out of the clouds this by week end, they will find the tough Missouri Tigers awaiting them in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers are expected to field one of the tough est running attacks anywhere and, in the words of a Mustang scout, “They are huge, really huge.” They may be huge, but as any one at College Station can tell you, the Ponies are quick, really quick, and that can make a big difference. A&M and the Purdue Boiler makers have at it in the Cotton Bowl at Dallas as the Aggies attempt to rebound from Satur day’s heartbreaker and prove that they are really back. If they can rack up a victory against the Purdue club, it will go far toward proving it. The Boilermakers are rated as contenders, along with Michigan State, for the Big Ten crown.
