Impromptu yell practices and sigrns proclaiming - the fate awaiting- the SMU Mustangs on Sept. 16 have set the tone for the last few weeks. The fever will undoubtedly be of epidemic proportions by the time the first game rolls around. After a decade of being on the wagon, so to speak, as far as winning football games are concerned, Aggies are off on a real binge of optimism. To be considered a con tender for the conference crown this year has proven too much for most Aggies to take calmly. Aggies received a surprise upon reading the Sept, issue of “Playboy.” The magazine's annual pigskin prevew picked A&M as No. 16 in the nation and second in the SWC. Date tickets for the A&M-SMU football game here Sept. 16 will go on sale Sept. 1 at the G. Rollie White Coli seum ticket office. Aggies can buy date tickets for $4 from Sept. 1 until 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. A&M student identifi- caton cards will be needed to make date ticket purchases. The following week, Sept. 18-22, will be the only time that Aggies can purchase $4 date tickets for the other three Kyle Field games (Florida State, Baylor and Texas). The national televising of the Aggie-SMU game has hampered the sale of tickets to the game. The ticket office at the Coliseum reports there are plenty of good seats left, many as far up as the 30-yard-line. A filled stadium on national television combined with a victory over SMU would be the best possible way to start the '67 season. ELECTRICIANS ADD FINAL TOUCH Prep School Practice Begins The Thanksgiving Day game this year is already sold out. As it stands at the present time there won’t be a single ticket sold at the ticket windows on the day of the game. The last of the Kyle Field lights went up last Saturday. If anyone is wondering why they were put up so quickly, it is because of the SMU game. The American Broadcast ing System has contracted to broadcast the day game in color and color television requires plenty of light. A cloudy day could drop the light level below that needed; therefore the lights have to be ready in case more light is needed. Felix (Hoot) Gibson, principal of Crockett Junior High in Paris, Tex., the past four years, has been named athletic academic su pervisor at Texas A&M Univer sity, Athletic Director Barlow Ir vin has announced. Gibson, with a wide background in athletics, academics and coun selling, will assume his new du ties Sept. 1, succeeding A. E. (Buddy) Denton who has resigned to become academic counselor at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. Gibson was born in Haines- ville, Tex., but grew up in Paris where he was an outstanding athlete and leader at Paris High. Later he served as B-team foot ball coach, head basketball coach and assistant principal at Paris High and was executive director of the Boys Club of Paris. For his excellent service in Boys Club work, school adminis tration, Church of Christ and Op timist Club, Gibson was named Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1956 by the Paris Jaycees. The new Aggie staff member, who will be 42 next Sept. 7, is married to the former Laura Jean Bell of Paris. They have two sons; Bill, 20, who will be a jun ior at Texas A&M this fall and Chuck, 16, who will be a junior at A&M Consolidated High. Gibson’s budding athletic career was cut short by injury during his first collegiate season. He had won a starting halfback slot on Texas Tech’s 1944 team but broke a collarbone in the season’s opener. It was nothing new, however, since he had had the collarbone broken five times in high school. But, after the injury, he moved to Paris Junior College and after graduating there he went to East Texas State where he attained a bachelor’s degree in physical edu cation and a master's degree in administrative education. At Paris High, Gibson was a three-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball and track. nLv Jtemi New Shipment baby albums shower invitations baby announcements shower centerpieces napkins, cups, plates etc. AGGIELAND FLOW] AND GIFT SHOPPE 209 University Drive VOL (c)8.A.C. 1963 ‘A bank draft will from shady business protect you transactions N’-A-T I ONIAXj 1 B-AlISTK “on the side of Texas A&M’’ P.
