Medical Consulting Program
Texas A&M’s Institute of Sta
tistics has entered into a coopera
tive agreement with the Texas
Medical Center in Houston to
provide consulting services.
Dr. H. 0. Hartley, director of
the Institute of Statistics, said
the institute’s faculty will give
scientific assistance to the Com
mon Research Computer Facility
of the center and its sponsoring
institutions.
Baylor University’s College of
Medicine and the Universty of
Texas’ affiliated institutions are
the sponsors.
Dr. Hartley said the consult
ing service is intended to benefit
all biomedical scientists affiliated
with the Common Research Com
puter Facility who require statis
tical methods as a research tool.
The services will cover all aspects
of biostatistical, biomathematical
and public health data problems
arising in their research.
The agreement will be reviewed
for renewal on a six month basis,
Dr. Hartley explained. He esti
mated the institute faculty will
spend 40 to 50 days in consulta
tions during thatt ime.
Coordinators for the project
are Dr. Hartley and Dr. Richard
T. Eastwood, executive vice presi
dent of the Texas Medical Center
and Common Research Computer
Facility executive committeeman.
Available for consulting serv
ices from the institute in addition
to Hartley are J. G. Darroch,
E. E. Dayhoff, R. J. Freund,
C. E. Gates, R. R. Hocking, J. N.
K. Rao, L. J. Ringer and W. B.
Smith.
“We have had very close con
tact with the Texas Medical
Center for four years,” Hartley
pointed out. “Our faculty has
actively participated in the
TMC’s annual symposia in bio
mathematics in the life sciences.”
“This agreement is the natural
outcome of close cooperation,” he
added. “We are looking forward
to getting involved in a rich spec
trum of problems involved in bio
medical research which will be a
real challenge to statistical meth
odology.”
