Terrell Called Best Of Lot In Tournament Ernie Terrell is called “the best of the lot” in the new eight-man World’s Heavyweight Boxing Championship tournament which gets under way Saturday after noon, August 5, in the Astrodome, and the Jimmy Ellis-Leotis Mar tin bout is termed “possibly the most interesting and exciting fight.” These are the evaluations of Sports Illustrated in its new “size-up” of the scramble for Cassius Clay’s title as champion. Tex Maule, calls the tournament a good one, and terms complaints against the tourney by would-be competing promoters as “sour grapes.” Terrell is set to fight Thad Spencer in one 12-rounder, then Ellis and Martin make up the second part of the twin bill. Win ners then are to fight, according to SI, (November 11 and Decem ber 2 in the Astrodome against victors of the Floyd Patterson- Jerry Quarry and Karl Milden- berger-Oscar Bonavena brawls. Cynthia Ward of Houston, swimming unattached, met the National AAU qualifying time in the girls’ 200-meter backstroke by swimming the event in 2:39.7. The Shamrock-Hilton Club of Houston raced away with the team trophy over a field of 10 clubs from Dallas, San Antonio, Waco, College Station and Hous ton. The College Station meet was the first of several in which Region IX swimmers can qualify for the men’s and women’s na tionals at Oak Park, Md., and Philadelphia, Pa. in August. College Station Swim Team placed in four relay events and local boys placed in five indi vidual events. The College Station Swim Team took the opportunity Fri day to honor Coach A. D. Adam son for the years he has promoted swimming in the community. The team presented Adamson with a scrapbook containing re membrances of his service and with a cash gift.
