A $17,640 National Science
Foundation grant to Texas A&M
I for publishing results of South-
; eastern Pacific oceanographic re
search has been announced by
President Earl Rudder.
The 18-month grant will be
under direction of Dr. Edward
Chinn, associate professor of
biology at the A&M Marine Lab
oratory at Galveston.
Administration of the grant
will be by A&M’s Research Foun
dation.
The project, “Editing of Scien
tific Results of the R/V Anton
Brun Program in the Southeast
ern Pacific Ocean,” will incor
porate reports made by partici
pating scientists from all over the
world into bound volumes, Dr.
Chinn said.
“Nine major cruises, all scien
tific data and routine chemistry
work will be included,” he added.
Publication will cover a year of
cruises by the Anton Brun. The
ship is an ex-presidential yacht
Williamsburg converted for the
biological oceanographic program
directed by Chinn for NSF.
“All scientists will work up re
sults and submit them to use for
inclusion in the publication,” he
continued. “When we have ac
cumulated enough, the expedi
tionary reports will be bound into
volumes.” Chinn will edit the re
ports.

Texas A&M has received an
American Institute of Aeronautics
and Astronautics outstanding fac
ulty advisor citation.

nerdi, associate dean of engineer
ing.
Lowry, 45, advises the 77-mem
ber A&M branch of AIAA. The
institute lists over 35,000 mem
bers nationally.
Announcement of the award
from the New York AIAA office
was made by David Z. Hazen,
| chairman of the educational and
student affairs committee. The
fS award, based on evaluation of stu
dent activities, originated in the
national office.
Lowry is an associate professor
| in the Aerospace Engineering De
partment, headed by A. E. Cronk.
I He came to A&M in 1964 from
Oklahoma. The New York-born
engineer studied at Purdue, Yale,
und Minnesota, where his masters
degree was awarded in 1947.
