Texas A&M football coach Gene
Stallings will join a solid national
field of 26 head football coaches
and 25 to 30 of the country’s top
sportswriters in the Third An
nual Coaches’ Invitational Golf
Tournament at Cherokee Village,
Arkansas, June 20-22.
The 54-hole tournament will
include coaches from eight con
ferences — the Southwest, Big
Eight, Southeastern, Big Ten,
Atlantic, Missouri Valley, Pacific
Coast, Southland—and several
major independents.
The coaches and sportswriters
will compete in separate brackets,
with 18 holes of practice set for
Tuesday and 27 holes of competi
tion on Wednesday and Thursday.
Co-hosts for the annual event are
University of Arkansas head
football coach Frank Broyles, and
John Cooper of Cherokee Village.
Other coaches expected to com
pete in the tournament include
the defending champion, J. T.
King, Texas Tech; plus John
Bridgers, Baylor; Darrell Royal,
Texas; Fred Taylor, TCU; Dan

To Sponsor Rally
Sunday At 1 p. m.
The Brazos Sports Car Club will
sponsor a sports car rally at 1
p.m. Sunday at Easterwood Air
port.
The race will last approximately
two hours and will cover about
80 miles. The first car is sche
duled to leave at 2 p.m.
“The rally route is laid out ob
paved roads selected for their
spjorty nature and will be easy
to follow,” said Club member
Roger Meade.
Meade also said that the event
will be excellent for beginners.
“Entrants in the rally will need
only a person to act as navigator
and any type of car, bus, truck or
