Offense Wins
Tuesday Match
By GARY SHERER
The seventh spring - football practice session Tues
day afternoon saw the offense pull even with the defense
in a short scrimmag-e on Kyle Field.
Head Coach Gene Stalling's and his staff pitted the
“maroon” offense and defense against each other in a
sustained drive session. The ball was set on the five-yard
line and the offense had to move the pigskin out to the
25 or sustain the ball for two first downs.
The spirited scrimmage was the highlight of the two-
hour workout as the defense stopped the offense on the
first series of downs.
On the next two series, the offense, led by Edd Har
gett and Wendell Housley moved the required 20 yards
both times.
On the second play of the first successful series, Hous
ley took a handoff and circled left end for 14 yards and
cinched the offense of making the 25. On the last series,
the defense led by Grady Allen pushed the offense back
to the 2-yard line where it was their down and eight to go.
Hargett faded back and hit sophomore Barney Harris,
who was running at wingback Tuesday, with a 14-yard
pass. Then, behind the blocking of Maurice Moorman and
Rolf Krueger, Housley got the rest of the yardage and
the offense went to the showers with a good night’s work
under their belts.
The rest of the scrimmage was taken up with the
first team units going against the second and third team
groups.

Aggie Golf, Tennis Teams
Top Houston Town Foes
With the exception of the spring training and Tues
day’s golf and tennis matches, this week at A&M is slow
for sports activity until this weekend when A&M spring
athletic teams get back into action.
The track team, led by Randy Matson, will be at Des
Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays Friday and Saturday.
The Drake people are looking forward to the event,
as it is a foregone conclusion that Matson will draw a big
crowd after his electrifying performance on “Randy Matson
Day” at Kyle Field this past Saturday.

The Southwest Conference golf
championship came closer to be
coming the sole possession of the
Texas Aggie linksters Tuesday
as they blasted the Rice Owls,
514-14, in Houston.
Southwest Conference baseball will resume this week
end with all SWC representatives in action. The Aggies
will be in Waco for a two-game stand with the Baylor
Bears. The Aggies, at 5-6, still have an outside chance for
the title. Baylor, however, is 3-8 and have been eliminated
from title contention.
This fact will tend to make the Bears loose and they
will be trying to thwart what chances the Aggies have
for the SWC crown. The Aggies have to win all their
remaining games if they are to stay alive in the title picture.
This weekend and next is all that is left for Aggie
spring sports for the ’67 season. Along with the track and
baseball team action this weekend, the golf, tennis and fish
baseball teams also will be in competition.
The second-place Baylor Bears
remain in contention with the Ag
gies and a match between Baylor
and Texas Christian was sup
posed to clarify the conference
standings, but rain forced post
ponement and the match has been
rescheduled for today.
Against the Frogs, if the Bay
lor squad garners two points or
less, the conference title will auto
matically go to the Aggies.
