Jeffrey, one of Toronto’s top penalty killers, underwent sur gery for torn ligaments in his right knee Tuesday night when the Leafs defeated the Chicago Black Hawks 3-1 and Clinched the semifinal set, four games to two. The second game of the series will be played here Saturday afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m., EST, and will be televised in the United States by CBS. BALTIMORE > — The Balti more Bullets announced Wednes day that 6-foot-10 Leroy Ellis has signed a contract with the New York affiliate of the new Ameri can Basketball Association. A spokesman for the Bullets said that Ellis refused to sign a National Basketball Association contract Wednesday and said that the Bullets would sue Ellis, the New York ABA club, and the ABA “for injunctive relief and damages.” In a statement, the Bullets said that Ellis had breached his NBA contract — which gives the club renewal rights Until Sept. 1 — and had jeopardized his profes sional basketball career.
