Houston Heads
Ed Association
For Next Year
Donald A. Houston of Dallas
heads officers elected by the Stu
dent Education Association for
1967-68 at Texas A&M.
The senior education major was
re-elected president of the na
tional association-affiliated club.
Other officers include Janice
Floyd of Navasota, vice presi
dent; Randall Myers of Houston,
treasurer; Alice Liles of Kings
ville, secretary; Raoul Jiura of
Arlington, parliamentarian;
Charles Johns of Pittsburg, his
torian; Richard Moreno of Hous
ton, editor, and Barbara Tobias of
Bryan, senior representative to
the Liberal Arts Student Council.
The club provides future teach
ers professional development
through speakers, programs and
projects, noted Dr. William W.
Stokes, faculty advisor.
State Institute
Prepared For
Fed Directors
A state-wide institute for direc
tors of Title I federal programs
will be held at Texas A&M Uni
versity July 17-Aug. 11.
Designed to study communica
tions problems in federal pro
grams operations, the workshop
will attract 50 school officials
from all over the state.
The Texas East Central Co
operative Schools Association and
A&M will sponsor the institute,
for which tentative approval of
Title I funding has been given.
Clayton E. Rose of the New
York State Teachers Association
will be among institute consult
ants. They will help participants
understand and solve special local
education problems under Title I.
Rose is NYSTA public relations
director and past president of the
National School Public Relations
Association.
Participants’ fees will be de
frayed by a Texas Education
Agency grant, announced Dr.
Paul Hensarling, Education and
Psychology Department head.
Participants may receive four
semester hours graduate credit
through the institute.
Journalists Will
Meet In Dallas
Eight journalism students will
attend the annual Region Eight
convention of Sigma Delta Chi,
national journalistic society, at
Dallas Friday through Sunday.
The students who will attend
are Tommy DeFrank, Dani Press-
wood, Eddie Joe Davis, Leroy
Shafer, Gus De La Garza, Robert
Solovey, Steve K o r e n e k and
James Basinger. The latter two
students will be initiated into the
society at ceremonies Saturday
afternoon.
While at the convention, the
students, plus faculty advisor Dr.
David R. Bowers, associate pro
fessor in the journalism depart
ment, will attend talks by news
media leaders from around the
nation.
Convention headquarters will
be the Statler-Hilton Hotel.

meet in Hensel Park at 6:15 p.m.
for a steak fry. The price is $1.30
per person.
Amarillo Hometown Club will
meet at Wehrman’s Restaurant at
6:30 p.m. Only paid members al
lowed to attend.
Deep East Texas Hometown
Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. in
room 3-C of the MSC.
Houston Hometown Club will
meet in the Physics Building,
room 201 at 7:30 p.m.
San Angelo-West Texas Home
town Club will meet in room 108
of the Academic Building at 7:30
p.m.
Yankee Hometown Club will
meet in the YMCA at 7:30 p.m.
Bowling Tourney
Will Begin Here
The 17th Annual Texas A&M
Intercollegiate Invitational Bowl
ing Tournament begins Friday in
the Memorial Student Center’s
bowling alley with eight teams
competing for the team cham
pionship.
A&M will have two teams in
the tournament along with teams
from Rice, Baylor, Louisiana
State University, Lee College of
Baytown, Southern Methodist
University and Louisiana College
of Pineville, La.
