Ag Billiards King
To Participate
In National Play
Mike Brown of Texas A&M has
been invited to compete in the
International Billiards Champion
ships in Corvallis, Oregon, April
21-22.
Brown, champion of the Asso
ciation of College Unions’ Region
12 Billiards Tournament in Aus
tin March 3-4, is rated second
among all the players in the 15-
region association. Top rating is
accorded a player from Purdue
University.
The International B i 11 i a r tbs
Championships, sponsored by the
Association of College Unions,
pits the nation’s four best college
players against one another.
Brown carries an Association
of College Unions Billiards aver
age of 4.63. He will leave April
19.
All of Brown’s expenses for the
tournament will be paid by the
Association of College Unions.
Ag Lifters
To Compete
The A&M weight-lifting club is
planning to enter competition in
the Texas Power Lift Champion
ships April 22 in Austin.
Both novice and open classes
will be contested in eight differ
ent weight classes.
A novice is a participant who
has not placed in an open contest.
Three novices have been selected
to compete: Bill Bownds in the
148 pound class, Leo Holub in the
165 pound class and Bennett Clay
ton in the 242 pound class.
Sid Robin will compete in the
165 pound class in the open com
petition.
Anyone interested in trying out
for a position on the team should
contact Henry Heatherly, club
coach and advisor, at the Weight
Room in G. Rollie White Coliseum
any weekday at 5:30 p.m.
A&M may enter as many as
eight novice and eight open lift
ers.. The club welcomes all lift
ers interested in competing.

Washington scored four runs in
the ninth inning, two on a single

ton 5-1 in an exhibition baseball
game Wednesday.
Jim Northrup’s bases - loaded

troit edged Kansas City 7-6.
Atlanta scored three runs in
the first inning on a walk and

Minnesota 4-3. Rich Rollins
homered for the Twins.
Lee May hit a single in the
bottom of the 12th giving Cincin
nati a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh.

Bob Aspromonte’s three - run
homer and rookie Don Wilson’s
strong seven-inning pitching per
formance sparked Houston to a
10-3 triumph over Los Angeles.
The Chicago Cubs and Califor
nia fought to a 10-10 tie at Las
Vegas, Nev., that was called after
nine innings because the sun was
so bright the pitchers and fielders
could hardly see the ball. Billy
Williams drove in five runs for |
the Cubs with two homers.

Whitey Ford, the New York I
Yankee southpaw, who has
amassed 234 victories in his il
lustrious career, is slated to start
Saturday’s night game in the As
trodome in the middle of a three- J
game series between the Yankees
and the Houston Astros. He will
be opposed on the mound by Chris
Zachary of the Astros.
Righthander Jim Bouton is
scheduled to start Friday’s night
game against Houston’s Larry
Dierker, and lefthander Fritz
Peterson will go Sunday against
Don Wilson or Danny Coombs of
the Astros. Peterson, a 24-year-
old sophomore, was the Yankee’s
winningest pitcher in 1966 with
12 wins.
Ford, who has undergone a
series of operations on his left
arm, has had a good spring and
is looked on to fit into the Yan
kee starting rotation after a dis
appointing 2-5 record in 1966.
Friday night will be “Kids
Night” with all children, 16 or
under and accompanied by an
adult, receiving a one-dollar re
duction on box and reserved seats.
Saturday night will feature a
pre-game home run hitting con
test between Mickey Mantle and
Eddie Mathews, two of the all-
time home run kings.
