A Texas A&M graduate stu dent who participated in the first four weeks of the Alaminos' cruise in the Eastern Tropical Pacific says the longest A&M oceanogra phic research trip is “going well”. Robert Mblinari, 23, was a tech nician on the first leg of the Alaminos’ first research cruise in the Pacific, under four-nation EASTROPAC arrangement. Professor John D. Cochrane, chief scientist, was pleased with cruise results, Molinari said. “All of the equipment was working well,” the oceanography graduate student noted. MOLINARI, of New York City, took measurements of salinity, temperature, depth, currents and temperature profiles as a techni cian on the first leg of the 80-day cruise. He said he also helped take samples with biological nets. The Alaminos is also acquir ing data with a fluorimeter, new current metes, cameras for sky pictures, and equipment for mak ing computer punch tape directly from meteorological sensing de vices. Another graduate student re placed Molinari, who returned to A&M following the research ship’s first docking at Callao, Peru. Two other A&M scientists joined the cruise at Callao. MOLINARI said high points of A&M Gets Pact For Naval Study An Office of Naval Research contract for $725,653 has been awarded Texas A&M for research oceanography in the Gulf of Mexico, announced President Earl Rudder. Estimates placed 100 whales in the herd, of which I have pic tures.” COCHRANE POSED as King Neptune, with a mop wig and parachute robe. “Shellbacks” were blindfolded, fed some “nectar of the gods” and hosed down with seawater to make them believe they had been thrown overboard.
