the last set and had the serve,
but the Navarro doubles team of
Abercrombie and Smith broke
service and served out to win by
a score of 7-5, 3-6, and 8-6.
Coach Omar Smith determined
the top five players on the basis
of a round robin tournament that
was played in the fall. Smith was
pleased with the way the match
turned out, as it was played in
a strong wind. The Fish looked
sharp in winning and should con
tinue to do so as the season
progresses.
The tennis team is the only
athletic squad to see action this
weekend with the exception of the
basketballers. The swimmers and
tracksters return to action Feb.
24 and 25.
Volleyball and wrestling set a
fast and furious pace in intra
mural classes Monday and Tues
day.
Classes A&C began the spring
semester with volleyball and, al
though they looked a little rusty,
the action was great. Class B
began wrestling matches Monday
and will probably continue
through next week.
Classes A&C will begin wres
tling about March 15. The volley
ball competition ends for them
March 9 and they will finish with
the finals before starting wres
tling. The Fish will begin their
volleyball competition during the
finals of classes A&C.
After the wrestling and volley
ball competition, track and soft-
ball get the spotlight until golf
starts in April.
Golf is a special sport in intra
murals. An open golf tournament
will be played in April and May
on the Texas A&M course.
Ag Bowling Team
Drops To Second
In League Play
Texas A&M’s bowling team
dropped to second place in the
latest Texas Intercollegiate Bowl
ing Conference standings, with
the University of Houston tak
ing over the top spot.
Houston has a 34-14 record,
compared to the Aggies’ 30 %-
17% mark. Arlington State Col
lege is in third place, followed by
the University of Texas, South
west Texas State College, Texas
Christian University, Trinity and
Rice.
Latest averages for A&M team
members are Perry Kinder, 181;
Zelman Joseph, 194; Frederick
Becht, 180; Jimmie Guy 181;
Robert Brandt, 165, and Freder
ick White 180.
Southwest Texas State College
will host the next conference
tournament March 11.
There will be both a singles and
a doubles tournament. Both will
be single elimination. All compe
tition will be match play. In
doubles, competition will be de
cided by the high score on a
system of allowing one point per
hole for low ball and one point
per hole for low total.
Nine holes will be the standard
match unless all contestants agree
before the start of the match to
play 18 holes. The intramural
office will send each entry a
schedule slip, on which the name
and room number or address of
the opponent will be shown. Each
match must then be scheduled by
the contestants before the date
shown on the schedule slip.
Winners should report to the
intramural office the day after
the match. Matches not reported
by that time will be considered
a double forfeit. Intramural
medals will be awarded to the
singles and doubles champions.
Brackets for these tourneys will
be posted in the Golf Shop and at
the intramural office.

LOOSE BALL
Billy Bob Barnett (40) seems to be imitating a shot putter
as he is involved in a scramble for the ball in Tuesday
night’s basketbal game with Arkansas. Arkansas players
are Gary Stephens (24) and Tommy Rowland.
Sports Aplenty
(Continued From Page Seven)
at center and John Underwood and Sonny Benefield at the
guard positions.
The visit to West Texas will be a home-coming for six
of the Aggie players. Peret, Myatt, Terry Trippet, Dick
Rector and the Ditto brothers are all West Texans.
Peret on the Aggies first visit to the West this
season (Dec. 27—West Texas State) scored 30 points and
pulled down 15 rebounds in a fine performance.
Benefield and Barnett, along with Peret, all sophomores,
continue to be the top three scorers for the season with
245 for Peret, 222 for Benefield and 201 for Barnett. Peret
and Barnett top the rebounders, with 177 and 123, respec
tively.
ONE FINAL NOTE, the attendance at Tuesday night’s
game was 300 less than at the Tech game. Oh well, there
are only two home games left. At the rate the attendance
is decreasing, there wouldn’t be anybody there if there
were any more than two games remaining.
