Page 8 College Station, Texas Thursday, December 15, 1966 THE BATTALION Aggies Face NTSU Tonight Athletic Dept. Names Groff To New Post By GARY SHERER “We’re looking forward to a good game,” Coach Shelby Met calf said when discussing to night’s match with the North Texas State Eagles at 8 p.m. in G. Rollie White Coliseum. The Denton team brings in a 3-2 record and also includes the Missouri Valley Conferences lead ing scorer of last year, Robin Russell. The 6-1 guard leads the team this year with a 21.0 aver age. Coach Dan Spika’s team has beaten South Dakota, Oklahoma City U., and SW Louisiana, while losing to Trinity and Memphis State. While Russell and 5-9 Ron Mil ler present a small guard tan dem, the Eagles front line will be made up of 6-8 Willie Davis at center, and 6-7 Hamp Hazle ton and 6-5 Matthew Huff at for ward. Metcalf, though happy with his team’s performance against Ste phen F. Austin Tuesday night, hopes the team’s improvement won’t halt with that win. “Things were going right for us, but they (Stephen F. Aus tin) still kept close,” Metcalf said. Packers Dominate NFL All-Stars NEW YORK (A*)—Green Bay’s Western Conference champions placed eight men on the National Football League All-Star team and the Dallas Cowboys, one step away from the Eastern Confer ence title, had four men on the first team selected for The Asso ciated Press. Only nine players repeated from last year’s team on the votes of a panel of sports writers and sportscasters, three from each of the 15 league cities. Bart Starr of Green Bay is the quarterback, Gale Sayers of the Chicago Bears and Leroy Kelly of the Cleveland Browns the run ning backs and Pat Studstill of Detroit the flanker. Bob Hayes of Dallas, the world’s fastest human, is the split end and John Mackey of Balti more the tight end. Bob Brown of Philadelphia and Forrest Gregg of Green Bay are the tackles, Jerry Kramer of Green Bay and John Thomas of San Francisco the guards and Mick Tingelhoff of Minnesota the cen ter. Two of the Los Angeles Rams’ front four, end Dave Jones and tackle Merlin Olsen, made the defensive unit. The Packer con tingent included end Willie Da vis, linebackers Ray Nitschke and Lee Roy Caffey, corner back Herb Adderley and safety Willie Wood. Larry Wilson of St. Louis is the other safety and Cornell Green of Dallas the other cor- nerback. Dallas also placed tackle Bob Lilly and linebacker Churck Howley on the defensive team. The repeaters are Brown, Gregg, Tingelhoff and Sayers on offense and Jones, Davis, Lilly, Adderley and Wood on defense. Mmlc Jlvt Supply ‘Pictu/ie picw*«4- •9M So. He has no complaints about the team’s effort in the games as he praised each player for hustle. The Aggie coach is undecided about a starting lineup. He defi nitely will start Sonny Benefield and John Underwood at the guard spots and Ronnie Peret at one forward position. Either Buzzy Myatt or Larry Ditto will go at center and Billy Bob Barnett or Terry Trippet at the other forward position. After Tuesday’s win, the sta tistics show Peret is the leading scorer with 70 points for a 14- point average. He is shooting at a 39.3 percentage on 24 of 61. Barnett is a close second, with 67 points for a 13.4 average and shooting percentage of 43.6 on 24 of 55. Peret also leads in rebounds with 56 for a 11.2 average. Trip- pet is second with 32 for a 6.4 average with Barnett third with 30 for a 6.0 average. Myatt is the top foul shooter with 85 percent accuracy on 17 of 20. The Aggies are shooting 37.9 as a team and have a 46.2 re bound average. Their 78 total Tuesday night was their high point mark for the season. Overall, Metcalf feels that 1 things look pretty well for a re building year. He notes that in years passed, the^ team always had a big scorer to carry them along. This he adipits, is a defi nite disadvantage and the team is aiming to overcome it. The Fish will also be in action tonight, playing Wharton Junior College. Their game will start at 5:45. Coach Jim Culpepper has set Mac Hooten and Bill Brown to start at the guard positions, Mike Hazel at center, Oliver Big- gers and leading-scorer Mike Heitmann, forwards.
